Solo players, avoid even trying out seasons!(1)Category: GeneralApril-17-2015 7:13 PM PDT (10 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
If you like to play solo, then as far as seasons go, the devs have given you the middle finger.

Unless you level your character in pubs, both your paragon, and the mf drops necessary for timely progress will be denied to you.

For example...me trying out my wiz again, ever hopeful, but now after 71 season 3 hours of playing solo, I'm only at paragon 160! ...but, a representative player on my friends list who has done nothing but play pub games...now after 64 hours, is 397 paragon!

MF drops are equally horrendous playing solo...I'm running at 125+, and the overall story is zilch, squat, and Nada.

The devs have decided to "sharpen their stick," and to metaphorically gouge both eyes out of any players who like to play solo.

I hate co-op.

I hate everything that stands for in games these days (Aside from KILLING FLOOR) and I prefer SOLO in everything where co-op is offered (BL2, D:OS, Bloodborne)

Though being solo and playing Seasons doesn't make me feel I'm getting less for my time spent. In a sense, yes, DIABLO is meant as a cooperative gaming experience, but this generation of gamers anger me insanely high, I want to stran- ...I'm good, I'm good... >.>

"Get friends, problem solved"

All friends I know hate D3 cause It's not D2. Problem not solved.

"Public game, problem solved"

Hate randoms, and therefore problem is not solved.

But then again It's not much of a problem for me, personally to play solo in seasons. But I get where your coming from, mate.

thank you! ...that got me to really laugh!
all of my long time D3 friends have now left, scattered to the winds, even the very most fervent among them...(had collected 3.3 billion gold) but who's now given up here and is back playing WoW!

...I'm glad to know that I'm not the only semi-same inmate that's still here in the D3 asylum!

I love seasons, I play solo. Don't confuse your victim mentality with a game mode.

Even though I don't play in groups unless I have a good reason to, I still enjoy Seasons for what they are. Hell, I've even been able to place on the Leaderboards each Season for at least some portion of it while playing solo.

Not everyone has the desire to compete so heavily.

I will grant you the point that there is a very large and noticeable discrepancy between the reward rates of solo vs cooperative, but the game isn't balanced around coop, it's balanced around making sure the solo experience feels great also.

If in the future they decide to reduce droprates so that group progress becomes the intended rate of accrual, then I'll have an issue with it. In the meantime, I enjoy Seasons because they force me to start fresh on a new character and possibly even a new class like I have decided to do this Season with the Demon Hunter. 4 months is still plenty of time to progress nicely while playing solo and still feel invested in your Seasonal character.

I play entirely solo, except to bump up friends, and invite people from general chat in to share blood thieves and goblin hordes when i find them.

Game (and Season 3) generally been great to me so far. Having a whale of a time trying out the new items and builds and all that jazz that came with 2.2 and the new season.

All my long time friends hate D3 cause It's not D2. Playing GTA V - CS:GO - Dota. My Console buddies don't even know what Diablo is - Playing CoD - CoD - CoD - CoD - Destiny - CoD - CoD - CoD - Bloodborne.

I got no choice... I'm FORCED to enjoy solo :/

That's my point...it's not balanced around making sure the solo experience "feels great also!"

Solo player get around one third the paragon as pub players for same time played.

Solo players get around one half the MF drops, even when totally MF equipped as I have been, compared to pub players...and of course people who play the same toon gift each other on ocassion...but as I've been observing it seems that you are at least 50% gimped on drops by playing solo, no matter what you do with your MF gear.

So far, in season 3 I have a third more elite kills on my wiz (which ain't easy playing solo) than you on your DH (which is a hella a lot easier, I know, as I leveled a DH in season 2)

So, perhaps I should amend my post headline to instead read "Playing solo seasons sucks, and playing solo seasons as a wiz sucks double."

You have twice the elite kills on your wiz as I

I've played 71 hours on my wiz in the past 10 days.

Either you've played 140 hours on your wiz in the past 10 days, or you are a liar.

I've barely played much this Season.

Last Season I was 200 by the first week.

If you play solo you're handicapped exactly the same way in non-season.

Despite some of my clans being nice enough to help me progress in Seasons, I felt it a chore to do everything all over again. I'm not exactly decked out in non-Seasons, and I highly doubt I could get to where I am now as I would in Seasons without spending thousands of hours of the game.

Yes, I like playing by myself simply because I feel I might be slowing co-op play too much. I actually take the time to pick up everything, while playing in co-op felt rushed because we're playing with other players, and they may have the tendency of moving faster than we do, so much to the point you might get left behind despite playing together with others.

So yes, solo play for Seasons can be awful if not demeaning, might as well stick to the progress you've made in non-Seasons.

Exaggerate much?

71 hours and only P160?

Even if you play on Normal you would be P200+....

Boo hooo.... Solo play always yields good drop rate and can get you geared quickly to steam roll T6, if you know the basics of this game and let's face if you don't after 3 years and so much information available then you're trolling us very seriously.

Actually no, if you play exclusively solo it's very conceivable to spend 80 hours and still not hit 200.

There is a real discrepancy between solo and group play. My only argument is that it's not that bad considering the game isn't balanced around groups, but instead solo.

you haven't even the slightest idea of that of which you speak.

Solo is not looked kindly by Blizzard. Always has been. Always will be. It's the same case in Diablo 2. WoW is even worse but obviously it's a mmorpg.

It took me until the last week of S2 to put together a semblance of Crusader's most effective build, Akkhan Condemn build. 380 Paragon levels of solo play. So I get what OP is saying.

To get into a real world discussion. In the US, being extrovert is strongly, strongly encouraged. All the top tier colleges hammer you over and over to prepare you for your future jobs. So open up. Play public games and make new friends. You will then be rewarded with your effort.

I do actually feel a little discouraged at times. There are times when I just want to play solo for a while with no one bothering me, or w/e. I think group play should be encouraged, but I agree that it feels more forced most of the time.

A lot of us, whether skilled, not skilled, or just not interested, have zero desire to carry or be carried by others, nor do we like being on somebody else's clock so to speak. When you're in a group, especially a PUG, there's always the stress of having to meet everyone else's expectations in the group. For many players, that doesn't lend itself to a conducive playing environment.

These are some very well-written and constructive thoughts, and I'm thankful you all shared them here. As a reminder, it's particularly helpful for us to hear not only what aspects of multiplayer versus solo play cause you to feel frustrated, but why they frustrate you too. Similarly, if there are things you happen to enjoy about multiplayer, that’s also good to know since it provides a nice contrast and helps us get a more accurate picture of what your current in-game experience is like.

I'll continue to watch this thread and pass along the constructive feedback I see. Again, sharing both the "what" and "why" creates the best feedback!

(And now back to our regularly scheduled programming.)
