Hello,

We're aware that some players continue to experience latency/disconnections, and as such we'd like you to provide your connection information if you are still encountering this.

We apologise for the inconvenience this issue has caused you, and appreciate your patience while we investigate.

20/09 Connection/Latency issues(97)September-22-2015 8:43 AM PDT (9 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Hi everyone!

I just wanted to give you a quick update. As you are probably aware by now, many players experienced issues connecting to Battle.net over the weekend due to an external European infrastructure incident. Thankfully, the situation has greatly improved since Sunday. We’re seeing no concurrency dips and incoming reports of issues have reduced greatly. We are still monitoring the issue though and hope that those affected will continue to see improvements over the next 24 hours.

The developers are also still investigating the high level Greater Rift and Witch Doctor build issues and this issue is being tracked here.

I also just wanted to address a few of your individual posts from today because it seems that we’re mixing separate issues into the thread that aren’t actually relevant to the original incident from the weekend.

These numbers are much higher than they should be. We’d recommend showing these results to your ISP and see if they can help you out with this.

Probably not a major issue, but it may be worth power-cycling your Internet router if you're still experiencing regular disconnections.

StEve, Talos & Caloy

With your connection to the EU servers, you may unfortunately experience high latency on a regular basis. This could be an ISP issue but it’s might also be the way traffic is routed from your country.

I believe this could be the root cause of your particular issue. Please contact your ISP for further information.

Nhrufos

I believe there’s an ongoing issue with your ISP right now (as you can see from the results there). The French community have been discussing this for a while now. However, your issue starts very early in the route so these steps may be helpful for you.

Colo14

We’re really sorry that your first experience with Diablo III has been a disappointing one, but please don’t blindly blame the wrong people without checking the facts first.

You have a 20% packet loss and extremely high ping before your connection even gets to your ISP properly, meaning the issue is most likely with your actual connection to the Internet. Please try the troubleshooting steps here and contact your ISP if the issues persist.

Your results are about the cleanest I’ve seen in this thread so far (unless I’m missing something). If you’re still having connection problems could you open a new thread with more details on the symptoms you’re experiencing?

Angel & Jocagod

Seeing a little bit of packet loss there but nothing major. If you’re still having issues today, please open a new thread and post more details about the specific symptoms of your issue.

JebJoya

As you can see, you’re connection, while pretty fast, is experiencing persistent packet loss throughout the route. Please contact your ISP with that information so that they can investigate further. Admittedly, they’re nothing major but they will add up and should be addressed before troubleshooting further.

You are losing a ton of packets right at the source of connection. Try the steps here and contact your ISP if the issues persist.

Lightning

Looking at your connection, you may not be able to improve the situation for yourself. Did these issues with Diablo III start recently for you?

Ares

You’re seeing regular packet loss throughout your connection so you should contact your ISP and show them your Pathping information.

That Trace Route seems to be incomplete. Could you please run another Trace Route and Pathping and post the results below?

You’re losing quite a lot of packets here, show your ISP as soon as possible if you’re still experiencing issues.

MonkeyDrone

I am seeing high MS there, but I guess that is to be expected from such a distance. Do you experience just high latency ingame or high latency and regular disconnects? When did these problems start?

Ash

It’s difficult to tell where your issue actually lies. Could you try all the troubleshooting steps here and get back to us with the results?

Big problem here. Contact your ISP as soon as you can and see what they advise.

The rest of you I haven’t mentioned; your results look clean and we have used them as part of the elimination process of the investigation. We have no further advice for you right now but as mentioned before, we will continue to monitor the situation closely.

Thank you so much for the reports you have submitted thus far, they have been really helpful. We’ll keep this thread open for another 24 hours at least so please keep us appeased of your situation and post your Trace Route and Pathping if you haven’t already.

Thanks again! =)

Thanks for the report FaerieFire. I don't see any problems there, but disconnections can be hard to spot as you have to run the traces at the moment of the issue.

Devian & Slaktepilla

Could you also run a Trace Route and Pathping the next time you have issues? I don't see anything amiss in your Looking Glass data there, but that's only tracing from Blizzard servers to you, we also need to see the route from you to us and the above should let us get visibility on that. Remember, only run them when you're experiencing issues.

MonkeyDrone

Thanks for the update and information.

buismor

Unfortunately you can't really use that troubleshooting method for elimination until you've tried literally every single online game in existence. Your connection does indeed look generally fine, but the route it takes to get to our hardware is problematic and that's what your ISP needs to investigate. The packet loss I highlighted belongs to your ISP so hopefully they may be able to spot the issue and help you out.

Kittenmitten

Your results look OK to me, but disconnections can be tricky to spot. Is this still happening to you today?

Durandil

You have some major issues there but I think it was due to a service issue your ISP had during the night (I know because I use the same ISP). Everything should be OK now so please try again.

Jocagod

Your ping is within acceptable parameters really. These "small breaks" you mention though, when do these happen? How often? Is there any pattern to them?

shiinjin

Don't see any major issues there. When did this start happening? Is it still happening today? Is there any pattern to the disconnects?

Kilgor

6 * 33 ms 33 ms 62.140.27.9

6 50ms 4/ 100 = 4% 4/ 100 = 4% 62.140.27.9

This is the problematic node for you. It's the link between your ISP and their 'ISP' so you should contact them and let them know about the issue.

AlmightyBox

There is indeed packet loss on that node but nothing major. However, disconnections can be really hard to catch. How comfortable are you with MTR programs? If you're still having regular disconnections, it may be worth running an MTR in the background so you can catch the moments of disconnection more precisely.

SoulSpeed

While it's true that these tests are from from conclusive, they can reveal a starting point for troubleshooting online connection issues, especially in your case where the issues were quite glaring.

As for your other issue: It's probably best you open a new thread about this. Be sure to include a DXDiag as well as mention any possible patterns to the behaviour.

Ykuri

Sorry to hear this happened. I don't see any major issues on your report. Does this happen to you often? If so, have you noticed any possible patterns to the disconnections?

TechZ

10 332 ms 329 ms 329 ms adm-b2-link.telia.net [62.115.141.23]

As you might expect playing on EU servers from Singapore might cause connection issues from time-to-time. However, the results you've posted should lend themselves to a playable game at least. Is there any pattern to these spikes? Could you post a Pathping for us the next time you experience this?

Thanks all!

The issues this thread was created to address should now be resolved, as a result we'll be closing this thread and asking anyone experiencing latency to make their own thread, and include this information:
ISP :
Town and Country :
Network Adapter Make and Model :
Modem/Router Make and Model :
And a trace route and pathping :
battle.net/support/en/article/running-a-traceroute-and-pathping

We can then investigate from there. Thank you.
