Total game freeze, still responsive to keyboard input(1)Category: Technical SupportMay-6-2015 1:53 PM PDT (9 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
I'm suffering from very sporadic game freezes wich happen exceedingly infrequent, sometimes they are weeks apart, sometimes hours, even a whole month or more with tons of hours played passed since the last freeze occurred until it happened again today.

I've already spent hours and hours researching the issue in the EU battle.net board aswell as the US counterpart with no solution to be found. I tried countless things that have been advised in the forums that may help to solve the problem, from reinstalling the game, updating drivers, changing power mode from adaptive to maximum performance to increasing the GPU processing time by adjusting the timeout detection and recovery registry value - and A LOT of things inbetween.

One important fact (and maybe clue for you tech guys) to note is, that when the freeze occurs the game still remains responsive to my keyboard input and the audio countinues without looping. I confirmed this earlier today when the freeze occurred by asking one of my mates if he sees me moving/casting spells. Doesn't matter how long i wait, the game never recovers and has to be closed.

I don't consider myself a super tech savvy internet lord, but im not a complete illiterate either. Whats more, is that i dont have ANY issues whatsoever with ANY other game/application, especially with other games from the blizzard catalogue - i can run these games on end, forever without a single freeze, crash, glitch or anything of the like.

Im pretty sure, there is no conflict or indifferences with other applications running in the background simultaneously with D3, as these freezes are very irregular and i'm always running the same applications/services and by always i mean it quite literally: at no point when i'm playing there is anything else running except for:
-Google Chrome
-Skype
-OBS(open broadcaster software)
-Battle.net app

D3 in real fullscreen mode triggers even worse stuff for me, crashes nvlddmkm and forces me to restart the whole system, i've found a lot of reports on this exact issue in the US battle.net forums. Thus i'm playing D3 in windowed fullscreen mode, 1920x1080, running 2 monitors at the moment, both running at 120hz, vsync is NOT enabled however fps are capped at 120 via the ingame slider. Running DisableTrilinearFiltering “1” & HardwareClass "2" via the d3 config file, all graphic settings ingame set to the lowest possible option for better performance.
Just for the record my hardware is very new(few months) and i haven't had any issues with other games/applications.

system:
OS: win8.1 64bit
CPU: Intel i7-5820k
GPU: nvidia GeForce GTX970
MB: AsRock X99 WS
SSD: Intel 730

Following is a link to my dxdiag file: http://pastebin.com/8HG7d5q9
Edit: I'm deliberately using older nvidia drivers currently for better performance in older games, the most current ones (350.12) do NOT solve my issue.

I tried to provide as much information as i could think of that might be of relevance to resolve the issue. I don't really know what else to do at this point, playing hardcore with this kind of problem is rather dicey.

Hi Sliccer,

Did you try everything on this article? You mentioned a few things from it but I just want to be sure you have tried everything there.

I would suggest maybe trying a Selective Startup, but as you mentioned this problem doesn’t always happen so that may not actually confirm anything. For now, try everything else on the above article and if you have this issue again after that please provide us with the MSInfo System Files.
