Possible Trials Fix(1)Category: GeneralNovember-8-2014 12:10 PM PST (10 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Hey, so we heard at Blizzcon14, trials are here to stay....

How do trials work now ?

- get 2 lightning DH's
- get a support WD
- get a support Crusader
-> blind/fear/CC them and DH's pushing for a high key

U might as well just delete the other classes....

Where are the problems ?

As it is now there are 3 options for us:
-Play a Demon Hunter in order to get high keys even solo;
-OR play the class you like the most AND gear up a support Crusader/WD;
-OR find 1-2 Demon Hunter friends that are willing to help you to get the high tier keys which takes hours and hours for 0 reward.

How could trials be fixed ?

First at all, it's ok if trials stay, but the method to get keys must change!

- Greater Rift Keys are from now on "Bound on character AND on the group that earned the key in the trials"

- Scenario 1: You play solo and wanna do greater rifts; So u do a trial and complete as many waves as you like, you get the key i.e. "40"; Now you can complete the Greater Rift and if you complete it within the 15 minutes timer, you can buy from Orek a 41 key for i.e. 5 million gold and 5 trial keys, but keep in mind ONLY for that character you completed the rift so you cant complete a 42 Grift with your Demon Hunter and buy 43 keys for your wizard.

- Scenario 2: You play in your group, make trials and get a key "44". Now people would usually do a couple of them log in to their weaker class and start fishing for a good rift; BUT a red text will appear: "This key was earned in the group involving PlayerA, PlayerB, PlayerC, PlayerD".

This is so far I thought about it, secure against exploiting it AND would bring competition to the Leader boards.

As it is right now, u have to have really good geared friends in order to get those high tier keys to compete on the solo Leader boards, even if you have high end gear, you just CAN'T get those high keys solo on the "weaker classes".

Any thoughts likes / dislikes ?

Cheers

Just wanted to respond to this, as this is a topic that Travis Day talked a little about in a recent interview by IncGamers during BlizzCon. In short, Realm of Trials are still being iterating upon. While we do not want to remove the Trials, we do want to reduce the amount of Trials that players need to do. Also, the Trials will see some improvements added with patch 2.1.2, and the developers are discussing additional improvements beyond that, but we don't have more concrete information on that to share at this moment in time.

IncGamers: Speaking of Rifts, how about the Realm of Trials? Some people hate doing it. They hate doing Waves, and character builds vary a lot in how effect they are in that area. People always ask why they can’t start on the last Rift they did, instead of doing Waves. And sure, that kind of usurps the function of Urshi and the choice players have to make between upgrading their gems or their rift key… I’ve heard many people talk about how they can only do say Wave 30, but up to Greater Rift 35 or 38. Unless they party with some Demon Hunters, in which case they can start right out on GR40. Is that a concern for you guys, balancing Waves with Greater Rifts?
Travis: I think the Trials are something we’re still iterating on. WE talk about this a lot at the office. There are some changes going in Patch 2.12 to make Trails more rewarding and to take some of the more frustrating things out of them. People talk about the ability to pull some of the monsters, like with Piranhas or Cyclone Strike. I think last week we made the change to allow you to pull all the monsters in the trials.

We talk about this a lot… How often people should need to do trials… This is something that we know we want to change, but we don’t necessarily know what we want to do yet. I talk about this with Wyatt a lot. We know we want to have Trials, they serve a very good purpose to let players not have to clear 1-30 every time, that’s why we have trials. They can be a point of friction for people who want to do a lot of Greater Rifts in a row.

But at the same time, when I go to a ride, and they take out a measuring stick and say you must be this tall, they don’t measure me again the second time, and the third time, and the fourth time I go through the line. So we want to reduce the amount that players need to do Trials, but not remove them entirely.

IncGamers: How about giving multiple keys when you do a trial?
Travis: Sure, possibly. Maybe we could give 5 or 10 keys at a time.
