Hi - I've been experience intermittent lag over the past month or so while playing D3. It usually manifests itself somewhat randomly -- normally I'll have a good connection (green bar in the game) but then all of a sudden, I'll drop down to almost 1 second pings (red bar). At the same time, my Skype connection that I'm using to talk with my friend (who is also playing in the game) also stops (but not a disconnect -- just no sound is getting through from my end to his). This usually lasts for a few seconds and then sorta clears itself up for a while. I started trying to figure out what is happening and it appears that I have heavy packet loss (10-15%) on my connection. Using looking glass, I see no packet loss, so it appears to be asymmetrical in nature. I just spent an hour on the phone with my ISP's tech support (Verizon FiOS) and from their end, they claim there is no problem. I was also able to run a test from a friend's machine (also on FiOS) and from my work machine (on Comcast) where I saw similar packet loss numbers. I also ran a test from my home machine to my work machine where I saw packet loss. Now here's the interesting part -- for some hosts (google.com and amazonaws.com, for example), I see practically zero packet loss. So clearly there seems to be an issue upstream somewhere. Is anyone else on here seeing packet loss issues to battle.net and D3, particularly in the northeast/Boston area? Are there any alternative configurations I can try on my end, like how we could connect to the west coast servers in the pre-D3 days? Thanks! |

Howdy! MissCheetah is partly right as in your ISP will first check your home connection. Which is why we often will confirm where the issue is located and if we refer you to the ISP it's with the information in mind to point out which node is having the issue for them to look into. Your Internet Service Provider should be able to help forward the issue to their peering partner or their own technicians if the packet loss is within the ISP's network or even route you around the issue as long as you provide the node for them to review or show them the Pathping/WinMTR directly. If none of these were an option for some reason, you may have better luck attempting to use GoogleDNS and doing a DNSflush. You may also have better luck via your business Comcast connection by contacting them to report the issue. Hope this helps! Diablo III is not a game where latency/disconnects can be tolerated very well! >,< |
