Windows 10 - Frozen screen(1)Category: Technical SupportAugust-25-2015 9:00 AM PDT (9 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Diablo 3 is not working on a fresh Windows 10 install. When launching the game, I get the main loading screen, but the graphics just freeze. I can hear the game sounds in the background, and I can still interact with the menu, but the screen doesn't update.

When running in windowed mode, if I resize the screen, it'll refresh the screen and show me whatever I've clicked on. So I can navigate through the menus as long as I keep resizing the window every time I click anything.

Hearthstone and Diablo 3 both give me the same issue - other games (Heroes of the Storm, WoW, and non-Blizzard games) work fine.

I do have a new Radeon R9 Fury X graphics card, which is what I'm suspecting that the games may not like, but I'm not entirely sure. I have updated drivers, as well as rolling back to an earlier version (although I'm limited on my driver versions for this card).

DyoGTS,

I'd suggest a couple of things.

Don't use Xsplit for now. Uninstall it if it's not able to be disabled entirely.

Play the game in windowed mode. Using an HDTV as a computer display device isn't really something we're able to support but they can usually be made to work well enough. Windowed mode is usually what works best for them

Since you can't get into the game to change that setting, you can edit your D3Prefs.txt file instead. It's a text file located in your My Documents\Diablo III folder.

This line should be present.

DisplayModeWindowMode "1"

Make that change, save the file, and re-test the game.

DyoGTS,

You might try setting your "display text" back to the default of 100% too to see if it helps.

System DPI Setting: 144 DPI (150 percent)

We're seeing a few reports from users in other games as well with this symptom. It even happened to me over lunch in Diablo III but I'm on Windows 7. I did have an open Windows of World of Warcraft at the same time though. I closed that and continued on playing with no further problems.

At home, I use an HDTV for Diablo III with Windows 10 and have't seen this happen yet so it's not doing it for everyone with Windows 10. I use an Nvidia card though.

Basically, at this stage, all we can really do is watch threads and see if we can identify any steps to reproduce the symptom so our developers can dig into it.
