Marked As Solution
I am posting this on EU forums as I don't think everyone checks the US forums. My original post: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/20418714209?page=1#0 If any game master sees this, I can provide source code for this program if you want, although it is somewhat easy for your programmers to create. After one year of gaming, testing everything to fix this problem of mine, I have finally solved it... And the solution makes me salty, 'cause it was so easy to fix! Some western digital HDD's spins down after a while, to save energy. Then when something in-game needs to be loaded it has to wake up again and get the info for you. When this happens, the disk will show load over 100% in resource monitor (See screenshot further down in this post), and that is the cause of these freezes. So I made a program that writes a 1 KB file to my hard drive every second (replacing it self, does not grow in size) that keeps the HDD awake, and voila! The freezes are gone! I got very happy and angry when fixing this, as I have trying with different GPU/CPU/Windows settings for a year, and it wasn't even a hardware issue, just bad hardware coding from Western digital. :'D If you are experiencing this same issue (freezes for 2-4 seconds randomly) in games, feel free to hook me up! I will try to deliver this information to Blizzard through a ticket so they are aware of this issue and hopefully they can spread the word. I do believe this problem is only found on Western digital Green/Blue HDDs, not sure though. I'm also not certain if this is only happening on laptop HDDs, but I don't think it is laptop HDDs only. I don't think I'm allowed to post links to non-official programs, so feel free to message me through: My battletag is: Criper#2471 Original problem: -------------------------------------------------------------------- My problem is that I get lagspikes (complete freezes for 2-5 seconds) when something "major" happens. Like Rift guardian spawns, opening inventory, summoning an elite pack with nemesis bracers from pylon, spamming multishot and vaulting at the same time. This happens in single and multiplayer games. I really don't know what causes this. It can't be my cpu/gpu overheating as it happens even when the game is just started. Edit: I checked my resource monitor when the lagspikes happened and found this: http://i.imgur.com/vTcWMdp.png Any ideas? Maybe it's something to do with my harddrive?
