|Introduction - why set item:|
Diablo have too many build possibilities balance the game based on skill is going to be nightmare. This is why the game have shift from skill balance to set balance. This approach is working very well. The new set released in PTR can achieve similar level of power.
Yet, a lot of people dislike set item. The problem of set came from limited level of customization. Sometime, I think that we are using a presetted char and everyone is a clone. From this we can see that the current game is going out of balance, the balance between customization and class balance.
I think to solve this problem we should keep set item in the core and add a few legendary item for customization. This way the game is more easy to balance, but also provide customization and build diversity.
Problem of current Itemization:
We got a lot of set that just buff the damage of certain skills and there is no new gameplay except of making it into endgame viable build (sometime it is even not the case). We love build that introduce skill interaction, Carnevil Dart, Uliana's Strategem and Marauder. Please dont give set like, Delsere's Magnum Opus, Helltooth Harness and Spirit of Arachyr. Just increase damage by certain percent is very boring. We only need one of this type of set per class, Immortal King, Akkhan, Unhallow Essence are set that every class need one but only one is needed.
New type of skill interaction is what we need. For example, how about letting us use ‘Pile on’ on ‘Wall of Death’ and cause Zombie of the Wall to Pile up and fall onto enemies and spread necrosis debuff. Instead of hey cast Wall of Death 3 times then you can deal 900% increased damage for 10 seconds.
Visit the following link for document for a more reader friendly document. I have also copy the document in here but it is more difficult to edit it in here if I came up with some new idea.

|Cool ideas, XelNagalvan! |
I've been following this thread since November, and it's good to see it's still going. It's fun to read new Legendary item ideas, and imagine how they might or might not work when measured against the design goals John and Julian mentioned.
I've started incorporating the design goals we discussed on stream whenever I come up with new item ideas on my own (just for fun). I hope that they'll be similarly useful for those who enjoy doing the same, and serve as a reference for brainstorming sessions in the future.
All that said, I enjoy reading these and I'm looking forward to seeing more!
