What is"Agent" & Why is it (Not Responding) ?(1)Category: Mac Technical SupportOctober-11-2014 5:02 PM PDT (10 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
I can play the game but activity monitor status is as the title says.

I have run the scan & repair on the launcer & all files called "Agent" have read & write permissions.
There are a few files called "Agent" in the Battle.net folder.

I can force quit "Agent" or leave it be & game still plays .

The Battle.net Agent is the application running underneath the installer and desktop app which keeps your games up to date. We're aware of a bug where it sits on Mac as "Not Responding" even though it's working properly. It's using a higher CPU allotment than intended as well; our developers are working on these issues and will have it addressed in a future Battle.net Application update. Apologies for any confusion, onimaru!

In settings you can tell battle.net launcher to quit once the game is running, however, 'Agent' process still persists.

This is intended. Agent is what runs under the hood to keep your games maintained and patched. If Agent is closed and there's data the client hasn't grabbed yet (either due to streaming download or live-content push for some of our other games), it can result in a crash until the data is downloaded. Agent can handle these requests on the fly.

I still don't understand the function beyond promotion/marketing, why is an additional layer now required to keep a game up-to-date?

Essentially, prior to the Battle.net Application we had 3 different versions of the installer that needed to be maintained and updated, and the functionality was limited to just installation/patching. Since we needed to set out to design a new launcher with Hearthstone anyway, we wanted to take that time to really update what the launcher was capable and roll everything into one unified interface.

We're not done with implementing features, and are still working on improvements. If you have any feedback or requests that you'd like to see in the Application, check out the Battle.net Desktop App Feedback Discussion Forums!
