The world of Sanctuary is a BIG place, defended by hundreds of thousands of heroes each and every day. To help you get to know some of these fellow nephalem a little better, we've created the Fresh Meat N' Greet.

The Fresh Meet N' Greet is a recurring series of interviews featuring you, our community. A few times each month, we'll sit down and chat with six different community members, one for each class, and then post our Q&As right here in these forums.

Up this week for Monks: Davlok#1847

Read on below to find out more about your fellow ally in battle!

[GENERAL INFO]

Grimiku: Tell us a bit about yourself.

Davlok: Hello, my name is Dave. I go by the tag Davlok in D3 and have been playing Monk since launch. Been gaming for nearly 25 years and have been a fan of every Blizzard franchise since Warcraft: Orcs and Humans on my trusty 486dx2. I played a Warrior in Diablo 1, Amazon (main), Sorceress, and Druid in Diablo 2, and currently Monk (main), Demon Hunter, and Crusader in D3.

In my boring non-demon-slaying life I am a Research Engineer by day, and professional poop stain cleaner at night. Currently raising two (half) Chinese gold farmers in preparation for the return of the RMAH in Diablo 4. But seriously, being a dad is great and having a game I can pause and resume is important!

Grimiku: Got any cool hobbies or talents?

Davlok: Probably not really cool, but the last few years have gotten into the whole gardening to try and grow a few things I like even if I’m a few zones off. Also, I’m starting to get into photography now that I’m a parent.

Grimiku: How long have you been playing Diablo games?

Davlok: Been a fan of the Diablo franchise since it first came out, so around 17 years. I played the original Diablo in High school, then Diablo 2 college, and Diablo 3 since launch. Actually participated in the World of Warcraft Annual Pass promotion to get D3 for free, but I ended up forgetting to keep my WoW subscription active and got my license revoked… but by then I had sold enough on the RMAH to buy my license back ^_^

Grimiku: What other games are you currently playing right now (if any)?

Davlok: Play Hearthstone on the iPad and Starcraft 2 occasionally and whatever the newest hotness on Steam that has a 4pack available to play with co-workers or college friends.

Grimiku: Do you play any other classes?

Davlok: I've leveled every class to 70 and collected and rifted around with at least one ‘end-game build’ per class. I ended up liking Crusader and Demon Hunter gameplay enough to play regularly!

Grimiku: Are you in a great clan or community? If yes, tell us about them!

Davlok: Yep! I’m a member of the Team Liquid clan on the US servers. Coming from WoW, I was used to a lot of non-official forum forums and theory crafting sites like EJ that had developed over the years. I didn’t find one until I found a D3 sub-forum on Team Liquid (a Starcraft II pro-team & community) that I became a regular at.

As far as D3 communities, I mostly use them as group finding tools instead of the in-game join-game option. Particularly a fan of the Rift it Forward, Split Bounty, and Class-Rifting communities.

Grimiku: Do you normally play solo or in groups?

Davlok: Currently in the process of potty training one kid right now, so uhh... Solo.

Grimiku: What's your most embarrassing moment while playing?

Davlok: One night during the first few week of Patch 1.05, I was in the middle of killing Ubers on MP10 for the first time, and my game suddenly locks up. Realizing the microwave was just turned on (2.4Ghz interference with my 1998 compusa router) I ran over to the balcony over the living room to yell at my wife to turn the microwave off… and didn’t realize she had some friends over and there I am just standing there in just my boxers.

Grimiku: Okay, what about your most AWESOME moment while playing?

Davlok: The first time defeating Inferno Diablo on my Monk. I was rocking 15k dps, 960 life regen, and a sweet Helm of Command I was sure I’d be using until RoS.

Grimiku: If you were a member of the Angiris Council, what aspect would you be and why?

Davlok: Imperius because he actually does something… and doesn't talk nearly as much as Tyrael.

[FEEL THE WRATH OF YTAR]

Grimiku: What drew you to the Monk?

Davlok: At the time I was still pretty focused on the weekly raiding grind of WoW, and hadn't really been following D3's development or beta testing. The first time I saw the Monk preview video, I thought to myself – “Wow - now I know what Krillin from DBZ looks like all grown up”. But none of the preview videos really got me excited about D3 until I saw the monk gameplay trailer with Dashing Strike and Seven Sided when I knew Monk was it for me.

Grimiku: As a master of martial arts, do you prefer to pull your enemies in to destroy them with swift strikes, or push them back and annihilate them with waves of spiritual energy?

Davlok: If I had to choose, destroying them with swift strikes!

Grimiku: What's your favorite skill (or skill rune), and why?

Davlok: Thematically, my favorite is Seven Sided Strike because that is what brought me to monk in the first place. In RoS, I love when the amulet Ess of Johan procs and immediately 7-sided the pleasantly grouped pack into chunks. I also can’t wait to try out the new Madstone!

Grimiku: What build are you running currently?

Davlok: I actually have three 70 monks currently - specced out in various gears and builds I find optimal for different difficulties/modes/solo/group.

火 Monk - Davlok – Lower Torment speed clear Rifts & Bounties using Tempest Rush – Tailwind combined with Epiphany – Inner Fire. That combination is some of the most fun you can have in D3 especially using bonus movement speed options like Warzechian Armguards and Mantra of Conviction: Annihilation.

雷 Monk - Davrok – My Lightning-Group DPS spec using the recently changed Raiment of a Thousand Storms to bounce into and out of combat. Has pretty clunky gameplay that requires a the legendary fist Jawbreaker to ping pong back and forth, but is fun for short gameplay sessions. Still feels too squishy without double Unity in T6.

冰 Monk - Daviok – T6 Shatterstorm Monk was taking the standard group friendly zero-DPS tanky monk build using Exploding Palm with Cyclone Strike, but instead of relying on group members to dps, combine the unique properties of the old Rimeheart and Frostburns to chain-shatter entire rooms full of demons!

Grimiku: If there was one thing you could change about the Monk, what would it be?

Davlok: I'd love to give a gigantic laundry list of stuff I'd like to see changed, but the one thing that would be the simplest to implement would be to… Give Monks back their attack speed!

There could be many ways to do this, from reverting the innate attack speed bonus of Fists of Thunder (its innate attack speed was severely reduced in RoS), to giving us a passive that gave us 50% of our IAS as CDR. (IAS was officially booted out of the trifecta-club for CDR). I’d happily give up the free teleport for Fists of Thunder and re-enchant IAS on all my gear if we could get a competitive end-game build that actually wanted high attack speed.

Grimiku: Name one piece of advice that you think every Monk should know.

Davlok: I'd have to say learn how to use both Force-Move (no default key bind) and Force-Stand-Still (default SHIFT) depending on the situation and skill.

Grimiku: What’s your favorite martial arts movie?

Davlok: Enter the Dragon, but for pure entertainment value - Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer.

Grimiku: Pick a Monk quote!

Davlok: “Feel the Wrath of Ytar!” (Even works in bed!)
