Load Testing on PTR and Beta Servers

The test servers are being pushed to the limit, through Sunday

The testing of Diablo III patch 2.0.1 and the Reaper of Souls expansion is off to a busy start. Beyond the normal glitches and tweaks at the start of a big testing phase like this, the test servers are intentionally being pushed to their limit. This will cause lag, disconnections and queues on the test servers through Sunday, December 15. After that the load testing will be removed for now, and the PTR and Closed Beta servers will be back to normal.

That info was posted in one of the new Battle.net forums that were just opened up, to garner feedback on the Loot 2.0 Patch PTR and the beta for the Reaper of Souls Expansion. For the Blizzard Blue Post Trackers here at Diablo Somepage, we now are tracking the posts across these new forums.

Here's the official word on the ongoing server load testing:
Attention ladies and gentle nephalem,

We’re currently performing load testing on the both the Reaper of Souls Closed Beta and Patch 2.0.1 PTR. Testing began this morning and will continue through Sunday, December 15.

For those who may be unfamiliar with what load testing is, it basically means that we’re artificially limiting the number of players who can be logged into the game at any given time as well as the amount of hardware game data can be stored and run on. The goal of this testing is to put our queuing system and game servers under heavy load so that we can perform server optimizations and make sure that said services perform as smoothly as possible for when patch 2.0.1 and Reaper of Souls launch.

Please note that, due the increased load on our queuing system and games servers, you may experience periods of high latency, disconnects, or long queue times while playing on the Patch 2.0.1 PTR and Closed Beta. While this is completely normal, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you to everyone currently playing the PTR and Closed Beta! Your efforts and patience will help us tune the game for optimum performance.

There are many blue posts about the Patch 2.0.1 PTR, and the expansion beta, in the new forums. Multiple forums were added for the PTR and beta, to help funnel feedback better than just having one big feedback forum. The blue posts on all of these new forums are automatically put into our standard Blue Tracker and the Bugs and Tech Support Blue Tracker. Here's an overview of the new PTR and beta forums, and some of the important informational posts so far, beyond the 2.0.1 PTR and Closed Beta Patch Notes.

The PTR and expansion Closed Beta tests are being done on the exact same servers, which is something new for Blizzard:

What ROS also brings us is new servers ?

That's not really what that statement means. Instead, it means that PTR and Closed Beta participants are both playing on the same test environment/client. Which in turns that they can play and interact with one another. Pretty cool, right? (Previously, with other Blizzard betas and PTRs, participants played on completely different servers using completely different clients. So this is somewhat unique for D3!)

New forums were added specifically for the Closed Beta for the Reaper of Souls expansion. Only accounts with access to the Closed Beta can post to those forums, unlike the general Reaper of Souls Discussion forum. Here are the new limited access forums:
The overarching connection issues involving the PTR are also seen on the Closed Beta server. Other blue posts so far about the Closed Beta include:
