Blizzard Blues Followup: Maghda Lag, Respawn Timers

More info on Item Locks, Molten and Desecrator damage, and the deadly lag at Maghda fights

A number of Blizzard Blue posts recently gave followup info to topics they discussed earlier. These include the deadly lag in Maghda's arena, the higher damage that Molten and Desecrator are doing since patch 1.0.5, and more details about the upcoming death respawn timer change.

Jump past the break for all the info.

The biggest issue is massive computer lag that grows while in the Maghda fight, whether the normal fight or in the Infernal Machine fight with Maghda and the Skeleton King. This bug eventually makes even the beefiest computer slow to a crawl, and is potentially deadly for characters in the fight. Unfortunately, it sounds like this will require a full Diablo III client patch to fix. There are reports that turning off any anti-virus software on your computer before that fight will eliminate the lag - just be sure to turn it back on afterwards.

Unfortunately, the fix for this will require a client change, which means it needs a patch.

Thanks for the feedback though!

The upcoming changes to the respawn timer were detailed a bit more, to clarify that it will be a 5 second total respawn timer.

Completely agree!

Turns out we do, too. I followed up with our designers, and they asked me to clarify that the "5 seconds" accounts for 2 seconds for the "You have been killed!" window appears and then the standard 3-second wait to resurrect. So, we're not actually increasing the timer at all; we're just looking to no longer increment the timer for players who die multiple times.

Also, awesome suggestions! Keep'm coming. :)

In the discussions about the problems involving accidentally selling equipped items to a vendor, the word is given that there aren't any immediate plans to add extra Item Locks or other safety features. So watch those item sales, to be sure you don't sell something that you want to keep.

Thanks for your feedback!

As Lylirra mentioned here, we're definitely aware of the frustration vendoring the wrong item can cause for players (I've done it, myself). We strongly urge players to use caution whenever selling items to a vendor, and to take advantage of the Buyback tab in instances where an oversight occurs, but beyond that, we have no immediate plans for an additional layer of protection.

The extra damage that players felt after patch 1.0.5a was previously addressed. The main extra damage at this point seems to involve the Molten and Desecrator monster affixes. The damage from the puddles of those on the ground now stacks, making it very deadly. It sounds like that's just fine with Blizzard; they want players to actively work on "staying out of the fire".
I would like to know if it's just me or does the molten affix do crazy damage?

I have a lot of armor and a lot of resist. I will set the game to monster power 5 and go to act 3 and stand in plagued desecrator all day. I can usually face tank hulking phasebeasts and 1 or 2 arcane beams is no problem.

But... molten just melts me and it seems to be half the time it's not so bad and the other half I see my life drop really fast.

Anyone else experience this? Working as intended?

Molten and Desecrator can be particularly deadly since they have a chance to both stack with themselves and with each other, and it can be easy to miss in the heat of battle. We’re comfortable with the way both affixes are currently working, though, since many gamers are well versed in "don't stand in the fire" scenarios. Just keep an eye out for those ground effects!
