PTR is Offline for the Weekend

Diablo III PTR was down for the weekend, may be up by Monday evening

PTR Download
The Public Test Realm (PTR) for Diablo III was up briefly on Friday night, but had many problems with people not being able to log in and stay logged in. It was taken offline for some maintenance, but apparently it was just too much to get running right then. It was announced that the PTR will be offline for the rest of the weekend, while more work is done getting it going.

The problems here aren't a surprise, since is the very first patch on the Diablo III PTR. Hopefully the kinks will be worked out and we can all get back to checking out the new gameplay additions and skill changes, very soon.

The official post:

Update - 9/26/12 9:30 a.m. PDT:

We have resolved a number of issues affecting player account creation and login. At this time, we believe that most players should be able to download, install, and then access the PTR without any issue. If you are continuing to experience issues using the PTR, please keep posting in this thread. Thank you!

Update - 9/24/12 4:30 p.m. PDT:

The PTR is now online and available for play. We're aware that many players are still experiencing persistent issues affecting login and character creation, but we'll be keeping the PTR online for the time being so that we can test and troubleshoot those issues in a live environment. Please be sure to report any problems you encounter in this thread so we can pass them on to our development team as quickly as possible. As always, since this is a test server, uneven performance is expected and downtime may occur without warning.

Thank you so much for your patience! We look forward to hearing your feedback.

Update - 9/24/12 3:40 p.m. PDT:

We'll be bringing the PTR online around 3:45 p.m. PDT in a test capacity to see if players are able to successfully log in and create/copy characters. If all goes well, we'll keep the PTR online and everyone can start testing out the new content. If we still see that players are experiencing issues, we may bring the PTR offline again to continue troubleshooting. Either way, we'll keep you posted and will provide updates in this thread as they become available.

We will be bringing the PTR offline for the weekend in order to troubleshoot issues affecting PTR account creation, character creation, and login. While this is only public test (the first for Diablo III) and uneven game performance is expected, we want to make sure that the experience is as smooth and stable as possible. It's going to take some extra work on our end to make that happen, and the PTR will need to be offline while we make our updates.

Thank you so much to everyone who submitted reports about the problems you experienced. We'll be working diligently over the next few days to resolve as much as we can and get the PTR back online so you can test and provide feedback on patch 1.0.5.

We'll provide another update on Monday (PDT), but we don't have an ETA at this time for when the PTR will be available.

Update Monday, September 24: The PTR is still down, but will possibly be up by the end of the day. The blue post regarding it:

Hey guys, thanks for your posts and, more importantly, your patience!

We are actively working on bringing the PTR back up. It's the first one ever for Diablo III, so it's a little rough around the edges. I'll post back when I have some more info.

The currently goal is to get the PTR back up by the end of today so you guys can check it out before Mists of Pandaria launches.
