Game / system freeze, computer restarts.(1)Category: Technical SupportJuly-25-2013 7:29 PM PDT (9 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Seems a lot of people have had this issue ever since starting to play D3

I've had this problem for as long as I can remember too and it's not going away.
Just booted up for the first time today and sat in AH menu for a while, but I could hear the sound starting to glitch which is always the first sign it's going to lock up and need a system restart.

It doesn't do it with any other program / game ... just D3.
Sometimes it does it first time I play it for the day, sometimes another few times in a row, sometimes after I've played for hours and had a break before coming back to play again (no logout.)

I ran a temp monitor program which didn't exceed 50oC just now before I had to restart the system. I've been monitoring the temp the past few days and it's fine, between 40-70 always.

I use a RADEON 4890 1g GFX
i7 CPU

....only D3 does this to my system and it's been happening since I first started playing.

I guess I need to try a new GFX ... but why is only d3 giving my card issues? I used to play world of warcraft without problems, and league of legends never does it.

Getting a new GFX is easier said than done ... might have an old 6600GT lying around ..will that run it fine?

I already have setting on low and tried placing them on the lowest but didnt help.
My game lags a lot in group game play (so I avoid it), dunno if it's cause im in Australia or the systems problem.

Shampsie,

Your 6600 GT may be able to start the game but performance will be very poor.

Can you post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it ALL here.

Could you also post your D3Prefs.txt file? It's located in the My Documents\Diablo III folder.
