Cinematics Crashes Computer(1)Category: Technical SupportJuly-17-2013 8:38 PM PDT (9 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Hi All

Recently my PC started locking up when cinema-tic's are played in game. The game itself plays fine but every time the cinematic play between acts my PC freezes.

An error message is displayed in the Diablo III debug folder.
"Soft DeviceReset() failed! D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE : 0x8876086a"

It then asks if I want to try to reset D3d, sometimes it works, mostly it doesn't. I Google this error and didn't get any hits so not sure where to go with this. It started happening around this last patch, never had it before then.

I tried the repair tool, and deleting the cache folder but it still happens. I also tried 4 different drivers, new and older. Made sure the in game resolution matched the monitors etc. nothing has helped.

Hopefully someone has run into this before.

Alum,

Can you post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it ALL here.

Could you also post your D3Debug.txt file? It's located in the main Diablo III game folder. Edit out your account name first though. It's going to appear in a few places in the file.

Alum,

There's no evidence of a game crash taking place during the session your D3Debug.txt file was generated for. Nor does it appear a cinematic was ever attempted at being played.

Could you get to the login screen and manually play any cinematic via the Cinematics button selection? My assumption is that it will crash the same way you described, and if so, the resulting D3Debug.txt file may provide a clue as to why.
