Very strange sound problem... X_X(1)Category: Technical SupportJune-13-2013 8:33 PM PDT (10 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Okay, so tonight I was playing D3 with my friend online, and I've been experiencing issues with the game audio. For the most part, the audio works fine, but periodically this is what happens:

-- All game audio instantly cuts off, and there's silence for about 10-20 seconds (it varies)
-- A faint crackling-like noise comes in, softly at first, then gets louder and louder
-- The loud crackling eventually fades into a very loud booming sound, like a combination of thunder and white noise.
-- After the thunderous sound reaches its peak, it quickly fades away, and the game audio returns back to normal.

So far, this effect only occurs on my gaming machine, which I built. It uses a Pentium D dual-core processor at 3 GHz, 4 GB of DDR2 RAM, it has a 1GB AMD Radeon HD 6770 graphics card, and the system runs on Windows 8. I've also got this beast connected to a 48 inch LCD TV through HDMI, and the sound card (a 6-channel CMI-8738 I believe) is connected to my 5.1 surround sound system. I haven't seen this effect happen anywhere outside the game. I've also tried replacing the sound card, but the effect still occurs.

...... Any ideas? o U o

Lodmot ,

Can you post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it ALL here.

Could you also post your D3Debug.txt file? It's located in the Main Diablo III game folder. Edit out your account name first though. It's going to appear in a few places in the file.

Lodmot,

Where did you get the sound drivers? Dogbert looks like a third party release. Are they officially supported by the manufacturer and for Windows 8? Were you able to find chipset drivers for your motherboard compatible with Windows 8? Does the manufacturer of the motherboard state it's compatible with Windows 8?
