Banning accounts for selling gems is flawed logically(1)Category: GeneralMay-14-2013 3:21 AM PDT (10 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
TLDR: I haven't been banned or set to BoA. Blizzard gave no warning in-game or on their web sites, but they banned people for selling what appeared to be a hot commodity on a patch day. Gems are duped, and that seems OK with Blizzard.

I was not in any way involved in this fiasco, and my account has not been banned or set to BoA. I have, however, kept up with the information surrounding the patch and I am appalled at Blizzard's response to people who were selling their gems and NOT exploiting the gold bug.

First off, it was patch day and there was no way (without going to a non-blizzard-supported site, ie. youtube) to find out about what was going on. Why wouldn't commodities like gems have their prices jump on a patch day? These things happen naturally. People also move quickly to take advantage of legitimate transactions on the AH in this game. So why are people being punished for making what seemed to be a natural decision when they have no warning in-game or on any of Blizzard's web sites?

Second, Blizzard has to be aware of the gem duping by this point in time. Why is Blizzard ok with people buying lots of duped gems for cheap, but they're not ok with people selling ANY gem (on this one particular day) through a legitimate system that was set up by Blizzard themselves?

I'm failing to see Blizzard's logic in the account bans and in the BoA changes that they are putting on many accounts. I know they're a little, dare I say, butthurt about the gold duping costing them a lot of time and resources and general pains... but this is way out of line. I hope they realize it at some point.

They're going to lose a lot of business from people who weren't even affected by these changes simply because of the way they are choosing to do business. People aren't going to continue playing a game in which they might be randomly banned (or set to BoA) with no warning; all while using supposedly legitimate in-game mechanics.

Good grief.
