v1r ,

I don't seem to be able to reproduce this here on my dual monitor system.

Could I get you to post your D3Prefs.txt file please? It's located in the My Documents\Diablo III folder.

Ok, so what are you trying to do exactly? You're using windowed mode so if you want to stretch the screen, you do so by dragging the corners to where you want it. If you want to cover the entire screen including the taskbar, use windowed fullscreen or fullscreen mode.

If you want to keep using regular windowed mode, you'd typically resize it to just above the task bar so it can be accessed while playing.

v1r,

Interesting. What you're describing is the way World of Warcraft has always worked. The window scales as it resizes. I've never had it do that and it still doesn't for me in Diablo III.

I'm going to have to do a little research on this and get back to you.

I had one thought though. If you happen to be using an ATI card, could you try resetting the Catalyst Control Center back to the factory settings?

1. Right click on your desktop, open up Catalyst Control Center.
2. If you do not have Advanced options to begin with, make that happen.
3. In the upper right hand corner of the window, go to Options. (newer versions of CCC will have a Preferences selection instead)
4. Go down to Preferences. (skip if you're already there)
5. Select Restore Factory Defaults.
6. Relaunch the game and see if it's still doing it.

Can you post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it ALL here.

It might also help to see your D3Debug.txt file. It's located in the main Diablo III game folder. Edit out your account name first though. It's going to appear in a few places in the file.

Could you try reverting to an older Nvidia video driver and see if there's any difference?

http://www.nvidia.com/object/win8-win7-winvista-64bit-306.97-whql-driver.html

When installing them, use the Custom and Clean Install options, installing just the graphic drivers and none of the optional components.

Could both of you see what version of Microsoft's .net Framework you're currently using?

You can usually tell by opening the Program and Features applet in the control Panel and see what's listed for "Microsoft .NET Framework". On my machine, it's version 4.5.

Microsoft also has an article that describes how to tell involving looking at the names of folders in

%WINDIR%\Microsoft.NET\Framework
and
%WINDIR%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64

%WINDIR% is typically "C:\Windows"

Could you try booting up in selective startup mode once and see if it makes any difference to the window resizing in Diablo III?

I've no idea what it is then, but in my opinion, it has to be coming from something on your computer. Only one other person has come forward claiming to have the same issue. I can't locate any other posts from anyone else experiencing it, in the PTR bug reports forum either. I can't reproduce it, none of the other computers near me here at work do it, nor do any of mine at home or do any of the friend's I've asked to test for me.

If you really want to continue troubleshooting this, the next step I would take, and it's not something I'd suggest a novice undertake, is to remove the system's hard drive and swap in a spare, protecting your original installation so it can be put back the way it is now, later. Install Windows fresh, apply Microsoft's updates, update device drivers, and then install the game and test.

That's the only true way I know of to totally eliminate any existing apps or settings from being involved.

It's either that or wait for others to come forward to provide a bigger sample of PCs experiencing it.

FYI: I've sent this thread to a couple of other techs to review in hopes they can think of anything I've missed. If I get any additional ideas from them, I'll post them here.

One last thing, I notice you have StarCraft II on your Battle.net account too. Can you fire it up , patch, and see if it does it to you there too? It works the same as Diablo III for me in that the windowed screen is fully resizable and does not do automatic scaling.

v1r,

Ok, I've figured it out pretty much but don't really have a good fix or workaround for you right now. Your video helped as I was testing slightly diferently.

It's the ratio of your screen display causing it. If you use a resolution displaying in a 16:10 scale, it shouldn't have the issue. I use 1680 x 1050 here at work and 2560 x 1600 at home, which are both 16:10 and it works fine. If I change my resolution here at work to 1920 x 1080, I get what you get. 1920 x 1080 is a 16:9 ratio. So, for you to get it like you want, you'd need to use a 16:10 res. If your screen can do it, 1920 x 1200 would be ideal or you can try dropping to the same 1680 x 1050 I have here at work.

I have no idea if the 1.08 patch in Diablo III did anything but since StarCraft 2 is doing it too, it's hard to imagine.

v1r,

Select Advanced Settings on that screen, then the List All Modes button on the next. Experiment and see which you can use stably. Dropping down shouldn't be a problem but it won't look as nice, still it's good to do as test. I suggest 1680 x 1050, 32 bit, 60Hz.

Pushing it to 1920 x 1200 might not work but you can try. There's a countdown timer you have to acknowledge before the setting is saved so if it blanks out, just wait and it will come back to what it was.

Like I said, I knew it wasn't a good solution, but at least I know what's going on now.

Lasrix,

I've never heard of this issue so yes, screenshots would help. Also, the first 50 lines in your D3Debug.txt file and your D3Prefs.txt file please.

D3Debug.txt is in the main Diablo III folder.

D3Prefs.txt is in the My Documents\Diablo III folder.

Lasrix,

Playing across multiple screens isn't a supported feature in Diablo III. What happens if you use just one?
