Stuck on "Checking for Updates"(1)Category: Technical SupportApril-29-2013 2:26 PM PDT (10 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
I've had an issue the last couple days where I get stuck on "Checking for Updates". I managed to get past it yesterday by a fan-suggested work-around, but it's not working today.

I've run the program as administrator, checked the Secondary Logon, and have no firewalls up. Yet, I still cannot get the launcher to even actually open.

Any help?

This issue can sometimes occur due to corrupted Battle.net tools files. Lets try deleting those files, so that they can be redownloaded.

Check out this support article for steps on how to do that:

Deleting the Battle.net Tools Folder

Let me know what happens.

Another program may be interfering. Try running a selective startup to get around this. Please be aware that running while in this mode can potentially disable any security programs you may have running.

Here's a support article with steps on how run the selective startup: Closing Background Applications

1. What security programs do you have installed?

2. Make sure that your version of Flash is up to date.

Here's a link where that can be downloaded: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

You can skip the McAfee Security Scan.

3. Go into the Diablo III folder and delete the Diablo III.tfil and Diablo III.mfil files > open the launcher, click on "Help" and run the repair.

Let me know what happens.

Please post your DXDIAG file so we can get more information about your computer.

Here's a support article that will show you how to get the DXDIAG:

Obtaining System Files

Once you have the DXDIAG file, open it and copy/paste the entire file into your next reply.

Lets try a different video driver to see if that helps with the not responding issue.

Here's a link for the driver download: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win8-win7-winvista-64bit-306.97-whql-driver.html

When you are going to install the driver I would like for you to select "Custom Install" > Uncheck everything except for the graphics driver > Check the "Perform a clean install" box > Continue with the install

OldFashioned,

It isn't IE per se. Our launcher uses your Windows Internet settings and if something alters them, this sort of problem can arise. We suggest using IE to check because it's familiar to people and it's easy to see if it's set to work offline (typically the cause for problems). You could just as easily use Windows Media Player as it shares the same settings.

Nimaimouto,

It's not connected to the Windows Media Player, it uses certain Windows Internet settings which are easy to see/change in apps like Windows Media Player and Internet Explorer.
