Too much censoring(1)Category: GeneralApril-29-2013 1:40 PM PDT (10 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
I kindof understand the reasons the CM's want to control the things said in the forums. But having said that, being a jerk, treating everyone like crap, and bringing up any problems we see is every American's god-given, inalienable right. When i see something like this:

"Don't be baited into name-calling or taking pot-shots at one another, and avoid using rude or condescending language." Posted by Vaeflare

My gut reaction is to sarcastically say "Yes, mine fuhrer." and then goose-step away. We are being ordered, not asked, to use certain words/ideas and leave others out. The words I choose to use, express my opinions perfectly. Anything else just sounds stupid to me, and makes me feel like I'm symbolically holding hands with the person I'm disagreeing with. It's sickening.

Do you think we should be able to say whatever we want and let the people that can't handle such language deal with it? Or do you agree with censoring our freedom of expression by the language police?

See, here’s the thing: this is a private forum, and your forum posting privileges are just that – a privilege, not a right.

When you sign up to login and use these forums you agree to abide by our Code of Conduct and Posting Guidelines. There are a fair number of stipulations in the Code of Conduct, but it all boils down to one of our Blizzard core values: “Play Nice; Play Fair.” We want the Diablo forums to be a constructive environment where players can feel free to talk with each other about Diablo III. As such, “being a jerk, treating everyone like crap” is not welcome here, and harassing other players or using inappropriate language can and will result in removal of your forum posting privileges. At that point you’ll still be able to read our forums, but you’ll no longer be able to take part in the forum community.

We don’t take those sorts of decisions lightly, either, but regardless of whether a game is rated T for Teen or M for Mature, no player should have to deal with harassment that’s directed at them. It’s unnecessary, and it doesn’t lead towards constructive conversations.
