Diablo 3 seems less enjoyable because of itemization.(1)Category: GeneralNovember-7-2013 5:59 PM PST (9 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Hi,

We all know the game is decent but it is truly less enjoyable than the last title because of the enormous range of the possibilities regarding high end gear with the best stat rolls. If you remember in Diablo 2 you can find a pair of "Chance Guards" (unique chain gloves) which would immediately grant a +200% gold find and a chance of magic find that ranged from +25-40%. This made loot grinding a joy; because after finding a low roll of the gloves I could still use them very effectively and they may hold some sentimental value to me or to whoever found them.

When I play Diablo 3 I know this game is more advanced, but it is so advanced that my magic finding and gold finding items do not really help me at all since the drop rates for legendary items are very uncommon; unless you play at a high paragon level. What I mean is I can not use an item with 25+% or more magic find as effectively as I could in the previous title; and the same goes for gold find. I like to use magic find and gold find as an example because these should be item bonuses that make the game play more rewarding. Now there is another way to boost my magic find and that is by increasing the monster power level.

I do not think monster power levels should have been implemented in the game at all because in some cases it is like going from four difficulties to 44(counting monster power 0). So I can not really play on a low monster power game effectively enough to go on to the next difficulty at the same monster power (mostly for new players). But playing at a high monster power is supposedly more rewarding because I get an increase of magic find and gold find by 10-100%. So instead of finding a low level item that could grant me 200% gold find and 40% magic find on a single item I am rather left with the only option to play at a higher monster power level. The reason I choose the higher monster power level is because I want to find upgrades that are good enough for the next difficulty.

Since I am poor and do not have any radiant star rubies to fill the sockets of my items, I find it more difficult to get through the game. But since the real money auction house is available I can always buy gold and buy my way through the game. So now I went and looked at the gold prices for items and see a problem. Every item that may be useful for my character costs a fortune. At least to me, I mean I spent $60 to play the game for what it is, and now I am being suckered into paying 50 million gold for items I should be able to farm in normal with the basic item hunting principles. But I can't find anything because even though I play on monster power 10 and have %100 gold find and magic find, it just doesn't seem to be doing anything.

I found a legendary item and it looks to be a great addition to my character but since the stat ranges are so wide I soon learned it is worthless. so the only thing I wasted was my time and money by trying to be successful at my own self-rewarding item hunt. Now this game is dry and has lost all flavor. I play knowing that nothing I buy on the auction house will improve my loot hunting and even if I reach paragon level 100 my rewards will still be very limited; and that is saying it generously.

Since I can only count on gaining levels to get through the game and not so much my items or loot hunt, I guess I will have to quit because I feel like I am in purgatory and unless I donate funds to blizzard I will never be able to reap the rewards of Diablo 3. I hope that one day I can make a return after reading reviews of the expansion. I assume since blizzard has milked the cash cow for nearly two years now they can finally make the loot hunt more enjoyable and rewarding to succeed in the game rather than forking out my hard earned money. Because after the day is over I may feel like playing Diablo 3, but I sure do not like feeling suckered into cash donations just to enjoy the product.

Anyways Happy Gaming. Maybe I will see you in the xpac.

TLDR; Please do not post.

A well written post, which touches a concern with itemization that we are trying to address with the expansion.

We have talked quite a bit about how we would like to improve itemization in both blogs and interviews, and during BlizzCon over this coming weekend you will be able to get more details on how the item game will be like in Reaper of Souls.

Maybe after BlizzCon, once much more information about the expansion is available, you will be able to see if the future of Diablo III will be more to your liking :-)

Is this a joke?
Users are complaining since D3 is available, and so now YOUR answer is look forward to the expansion
so YOUR answer is that if we WANT the game as it SHOULD have been, we'll have to PAY more for it

I personally won't buy any other Blizzard game, and I'm not the only one in that case

so good luck with the fanboys, because that is all you got left

Just to be clear; many of the features and improvements to the game that we are working on for Reaper of Souls will be available to everyone free of charge in a pre-expansion patch—this includes Loot 2.0, Paragon 2.0, and a variety of other system changes and tuning. Whether or not the remaining features of the expansion are worth your money is of course up to you to decide.

Any chance we will get an ETA of the pre expansion patch?

I haven't seen a date being set for it yet, so I'm afraid I am unable to answer that question at this moment in time.

We typically release pre-expansion patches somewhere between a couple of weeks to a couple of months before an expansion launch, and since Reaper of Souls is still under development, a release date has yet to be decided. The only thing that's known currently is that the expansion is scheduled to release in 2014, which can maybe serve as a rough time-frame, but I know it doesn't really answer your question.
