I'm curious to know how much of each of the following three methods you each used in order to acquire the gear you currently have:

1. Farming: gold and items gained by actually playing the game (as well as any gear you were able to purchase on the AH using the profits from items you found through farming)

2. Flipping: purchasing items on the auction house for the sole purpose of reselling them for a higher amount after winning the auction (as well as any gear you were able to purchase using the profits)

3. Real money: purchasing items or gold on the Real Money Auction House.

I'll start with my own estimate:

40% farming
40% flipping
20% real money

I think this is a pretty interesting thread, and would like to thank you for posting it. Personally, it’s 100% farming for me, and the kindness of friends. Any flipping I may have done was through circumstantial equipment resale.

I think a lot of players might have questions about how to acquire wealth from farming or the auction house, so I’ll link a couple of resources I found to help answer some of those questions. Feel free to post helpful hints and guides to help out your fellow Nephalem while sharing your stories of loot and plunder!

and the kindness of friends.
That could have several implied meanings for a Blizzard employee. You might want to clarify.

I suppose you've got a point, but I'm just talking about a friend handing me a bunch of extra Barbarian gear he had. Employee's don't receive any special perks that a player can't get.
