FPS drops after recent patch(1)Category: Technical SupportApril-5-2013 10:04 AM PDT (10 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
after the most recent round of hot fixes I find the game to be un playable.

Currently running the following.

I5 2500K @ 4.6Ghz
G-skill 16GB DDR 3 1866
Asus P67 Sabertooth motherboard
Asus 570 Direct CU II (Stock clocks)
G-skill 120GB SSD
Western Digital 500GB 7200 RPM hard drive

Diablo 3 is located on my SSD and I do get extremely fast loads but as soon as I fight a group of mobs in Act 3 Inferno I go from 60 fps to 1-5 with lots of skip and then either I die or some how I get lucky and kill every thing and live.

Vertigo101,

Can you post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it ALL here.

Could you also post your D3Prefs.txt file? It's located in the My Documents\Diablo III folder.

Vertigo101,

Try using an earlier release of Nvidia video drivers. I suggest 306.97 right now.

I'd also suggest lowering the number of sound channels to 32 or even 16.

Try these two suggestions and see if it improves performance for you.

PS. Newer audio drivers may help as well.

I believe these will work. There's a direct download link on the page.

Vertigo101,

Sound quality is in the ear of the beholder more or less. Many people are perfectly satisfied with on-board sound and many aren't, preferring to use discrete cards with better quality components and more features, inputs, and outputs.

To answer your question " Is the realitek onboard sound card as good as the aftermarket ones you can buy?" Technically, no, it's not.

Depending on lots of variables though, you may or may not hear the difference.

Vertigo101,

They scan clean for me, I downloaded them before posting to make sure the link worked. Did you use the Direct Download Link I mentioned? It's a link arrived at by clicking the highlighted text on that page, not the "Download Now" button.
