Currently getting Error 73, says battle.net service is temporarily down, what does that mean?

All battle.net sites are working and I can manage my account on battle.net, so it obviously isn't "temporarily down", so whats the problem?

The server status page is telling me that the servers are all online, so it isn't that either...

Seriously, why can't I log in?

I'm on it. Reports are a little mixed and sporadic right now but we'll get back to you as soon as we have more solid information.

I expect the severs page show the services down. Why it show like everything fine.

Because the servers themselves are perfectly fine ray. Logging into them appears to be the problem for a lot of players. That's what we're working on.

UPDATE: We believe we may have found a pattern in these reports. It appears that almost all reports from Europe have been from players who either are trying to access US servers OR have a Battle.net account that was originally created on the US Battle.net website (i.e. a US Battle.net account).

This is why some of you cannot login but your friends and family using the same network can. This issue appears to affect all of our games right now and is obviously a high priority for our engineers. We will keep you updated here and on Twitter.

I updated to windows 8.1 yesterday. I hope it's not the cause.

Indeed, as mentioned in the update above you will see this error message if you are trying to access US servers or you have a US Battle.net account (regardless of the region you're trying to login to).

Apologies once again though to all those who are affected by today's issues. Our engineers are doing the best they can to get you guys back in the game.
