Warning: Auction House 0 bid (even Buyout) gold exploit(1)Category: GeneralSeptember-15-2013 12:06 AM PDT (9 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
If you have anything of value, DO NOT post it up for a low bid.

You thought only the items who have low bid/no buyout get exploited? Think again.

Was looking for a sword upgrade for my monk this morning, and even though this sword wasn't it i bid on it to check a theory of mine from a couple of days ago. Basically i saw an EF that had 2b buyout and low bid (1269 dex/cd/socket) that went from low bid/2b buyout to 0 bid/NO BUYOUT. Now, since i wasn't sure if that was really what happened (as in someone managed to exploit it this way) i decided to bid on this sword since it had a low buyout just to check my theory, since obviously this item isn't worth 2b but still more than 2m.

Now look what happened.

I bid on it, bid was too low etc. Not winning ofc etc.

Then 20 minutes later... check again.

It went from having a buyout of 2b to 0bid and N/A Buyout.

DO NOT PUT YOUR ITEMS ON BID LOWER THAN WHAT YOU'RE WILLING TO GET FOR THEM.

And spam reports to blizzard about this bug, maybe we can expedite the fix.

Thanks for reading and hope you don't get "scammed" this way.

Update 1: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/10093359239

Thanks for the report Melkor. I am watching Void's thread in the Wizard forums and my team is working on trying to verify that this works on our end as well.

As an update, this issue is something that my team is still actively working on reproducing. If any of you happen to discover any additional information on how to reproduce (or work around) this issue, please feel free to make a post here and let us know.

Also, since this is a new thread let me take a quick moment to remind everyone to please try and keep on-topic and refrain from posting unrelated or unhelpful commentary. Do your best to keep the discussion positive, and aimed towards reporting bugs, providing workarounds for bugs, or providing new steps or new information on how to reproduce bugs.

Thanks for all the reports, everyone!

Despite our on-going efforts investigating this rather complex issue, we have been unable to reproduce this internally. This means that we do not have any new information to share in regards to when a fix can be expected. Please keep in mind that with the closure of the Auction House drawing near, and our current focus on Reaper of Souls development, the chance that we will be able to provide a fix for this issue becomes increasingly less likely.

For now we can only recommend that you follow the workaround, which is to avoid putting items on the Auction Houses with very low starting bids.

I have seen and collected various posts on how to do it, even on these forums. What's the e-mail address again to send them to?

You can always send such information to hacks@blizzard.com, but you can also report it here on this webform http://eu.blizzard.com/en-gb/submit/hacks.html

I must confess I find it a little surprising that

we have been unable to reproduce this internally

the might and resource of Blizzard are unable to replicate something that I or any player can do if we follow the instructions freely available online to crash the bid status as is being done daily at both the SC and HC OFFICIAL BLIZZARD auction houses...

I just want to mention that being able to reproduce an issue in our live environment is not the same as being able to reproduce it in our internal one. Being able to also reproduce an issue internally in a more closed and controlled environment is needed in order to properly identify the cause of an issue, and thus develop a proper fix for it.
