| Why I left initially As background, I've played bits and pieces of D2 but I never bought it because I was more into Baldur's Gate I & II at the time. I have played every other Blizzard title multiple times however, except for WoW. That being said, I eagerly anticipated the release of D3 - thinking this would be a good introduction to the franchise and the ARPG genre. Played it and beat it on normal mode and was like..."Hmpf. That was ok I guess." Started Act I of Nightmare and didn't understand the appeal of running through the same game all over again multiple times - so I promptly quit. Don't get me wrong, I knew that as an ARPG that is what I should expect - but I guess I was expecting it to grab me more. I just wasn't having fun selling everything I found just to go to the AH and buy the items I wanted. Generally what drove me to the AH was feeling underpowered when I played with other people of the same class. I also didn't feel like the "randomization" which was advertised was random at all. Major checkpoints seemed like they were in the exact same areas as my previous run through. Why I'm back It's a Blizzard game, so I know it'll be supported for at least another 10 years. That and I've seen story after story of the constant stream of patches the game has been getting. I've also changed my philosophy about the AH. I'm not going to use it at all. I'm just going to rely on drops and crafting and see if I can get excited about checking out the loot again (something I only really experienced when I first started the game). I figure I may return to the AH once I hit Inferno. This will primarily be to stack up on magic find though. Might not be the ideal plan, but it makes sense from where I'm standing right now. I'm also back because I have a couple close friends who are just now considering buying the game. I really didn't get much enjoyment running around with strangers. It didn't feel social and collaborative, like LOL. Lastly, I think Hardcore mode is something I definitely want to try out. I don't want to jump into it prematurely though. I feel like I need to at least level up a couple characters to 60 before attempting it. Advice for a noob? I'm just curious what kind of things you guys have done to keep the game fresh? Are there any fan sites where I can check out relevant builds and gain a deeper understanding on how to get the most out of my playthroughs? Do you recommend racing to Inferno or should I take my time exploring every nook and cranny like my first time around? What question haven't I asked that you would have liked to know when you were leveling up your first level 60 character? | ||
