Major Graphics problem, bad looking textures(1)Category: Technical SupportJanuary-18-2013 3:21 PM PST (10 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Hi
I stopped playing Diablo 3 a while ago and recently tried to get back into it. When I opened up Diablo the textures look like they are on the worst setting (even though I have most settings on ultra). This problem also occurs in Starcraft 2, but not WoW. I played the games when I was running a 32bit OS and migrated them over to this computer which is running 64bit if that makes a difference.

Here are a few screenshots:

Svafa ,

With the game closed, can you please post your current D3Prefs.txt file? It's located in your My Documents\Diablo III folder. After posting it, go ahead and delete the file. Before starting the game up again, reset your Catalyst Control Center settings back to their factory defaults.

1. Right click on your desktop, open up Catalyst Control Center.
2. If you do not have Advanced options to begin with, make that happen.
3. In the upper right hand corner of the window, go to Options. (newer versions of CCC will have a Preferences selection instead)
4. Go down to Preferences. (skip if you're already there)
5. Select Restore Factory Defaults.
6. Try playing the game again using your usual settings. The D3Prefs.txt will be recreated with default values.

See if all of that helps any.

Svafa,

How is it when played in full screen and not one of the windowed modes?

Let me get your dxdiag info too please.

You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it ALL here.

Svafa ,

Ok, now let me see your D3Debug.txt file please. It's located in the main Diablo III game folder. Edit out your account name first though. It's going to appear in a few places in the file.

Svafa ,

I'm just not seeing anything in these logs that would indicate a problem anywhere. If it's happening to more than one game, it's going to be something they have in common. StarCraft II and Diablo III don't share any setting info.

Are you using a Windows 7 theme by chance? Can you try the game both with the desktop set to a non-aero display and then with one of the built-in aero modes?

For the game shortcuts, make sure there aren't any compatibility modes selected, none are needed.
