| I played Diablo 3 when it first launched in May, and loved it. Unfortunately, I had school for few months so I could not play that much, and now that I am off a semester I'm starting for games to look. I went back to WoW and played Pandaria for almost a month now, but I'm running out of things to do... so I decided to come back to Diablo 3 after almost 5 months break. After patching, however, the game runs a lot choppier than before. I ran with everything at high easily, but now the gameplay looks choppy and I can notice frame lags which bug me. Did the patches increase the required setting for Diablo 3? | ||

| Llaume, Can you post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool: Click on Start Click on Run Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field) Hit Enter or OK Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it ALL here. Could you also post your D3Prefs.txt file? It's located in the My Documents\Diablo III folder. | ||

| Llaume, All of your hardware, drivers, and settings seem fine. I see no reason for any performance issues really. You might want to run with Vertical Sync enabled though. I'd also suggest opening your Nvidia Control Panel and resetting the settings back to the factory defaults and see if you see an improvement. | ||

| Llaume, FPS rates changing like that are pretty much normal as the game has to process all of the objects in front of your character including those behind obstructions like walls. Sometimes you're facing an area with nothing going on and other times, all hell is breaking loose. FPS rates are going to change depending on that. The only way to get a steady 60 fps is to use Vertical Sync which caps the rate at your monitor's refresh rate (typically 60hz) and then have hardware capable of maintaining that rate under heavy load circumstances so it doesn't drop. Systems barely able to maintain 60 will often dip to 30 when under load, and then back up again when the load decreases. In Wow, it can also happen a lot due to addons both you and others around you are using as they communicate back and forth. That can cause a lot of processing to go on that you never even see, further increasing the load on the cpu. | ||
