Diablo 3 retail has stopped working(1)Category: Technical SupportDecember-24-2012 12:59 PM PST (10 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
I think it's related to the patch or perhaps a stealth patch since I was able to run it just fine yesterday. I'd rather not uninstall and re-install. I just wish blizzard would take more care when sending out patches.

gd1,

What have you done so far in trying to resolve it?

gd1,

Well, there hasn't been any stealth patches or anything like that.

What you're giving me is simply a Windows error stating the application listed has stopped responding. It's not a Diablo III error so I haven't got much of anything to go on here.

Can you post your D3Debug.txt file? It may provide a clue. It's located in the main Diablo III game folder. Edit out your account name first though. It's going to appear in a few places in the file.

gd1,

The next section in the log file should be where it's initializing the Battle.net section. Yours isn't getting that far.

Could you try what's described in the following two articles please?

gd1 ,

If you use any internet security programs like a software firewall or anti-virus app, try temporarily disabling them.

gd1,

You may need to temporarily actually uninstall the anti-virus app as they sometimes keep functioning when disabled. Manufacturers provide uninstall tools for this purpose so you'd need to check on their support site to get it. Be sure you'll be able to reinstall it first though before uninstalling it.

gd1,

I understand that but we changed nothing recently that would cause an issue like this or we'd be flooded with similar reports and we're getting none besides yours.. It must, in my opinion, be something that's changed on your system.

Try booting in selective startup once and see if it still does it.

gd1,

That doesn't help then as I need the computer to not be using any anti virus app at all while troubleshooting. Why wouldn't you be able to reinstall the app?

gd1,

They usually just use a serial number and you'd need that again, but I'm no expert as I've never even heard of that particular one. I wouldn't want you to lose access to a program you paid for so check with the manufacturer before uninstalling.

If you can't do that for now, I'd have to suggest deleting the game folder and doing a complete reinstall. If you do, also delete the two folders in the articles I linked earlier.

gd1,

You'll need to do whatever it takes to eliminate your anti-virus program being the cause. This pretty much means completely uninstalling it. If you have the means, you could remove the entire hard drive to keep it and its contents safe, install a spare hard drive and do a clean install of Windows, updates, drivers, and the game to see if it works. If it does, you'll know it was something on your original drive/Windows installation causing the problem.
