New Class Ideas: The Worrier, Rouge and So-so’er!(1)Category: GeneralMarch-21-2013 4:14 AM PDT (10 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Greetings! It is my understanding that Blizzard is eventually going to make an expansion to Diablo III, and I figured that they needed my input to do this as I have a long history of inspiring Blizzard’s products: For example after playing Justice League, I told a friend that Green Arrow was stupid and overpowered. I don’t know how word of this reached California, but just fourteen years later, the Hunter class’s need for arrows was removed from World of Warcraft. Coincidence? I think not.

Unfortunately, I haven’t received any e-mails personally asking me what classes they should include in Diablo III’s expansion. As this is obviously just an oversight by a soon-to-be-fired secretary, I figured that I should just put my suggestions on the forum instead.

The Worrier
People on the forum often complain that the game is made too easy and many miss the days when inferno was all about running from the enemies, sobbing profusely while you pleaded for the potion timer to move faster. Playing the worrier turns this into a gameplay mechanic this hero of cowardice lacks both the means and the courage to face the demons.

Skill Suggestions:

1) Frustration: Damage over Time debuff that slowly drains the enemy’s health while the Worrier screamingly runs around in a frenzied panic. Potential runes include “Infighting” that makes the damage increase when multiple enemies are chasing our hero.

2) Mumbling: For six seconds, the worrier mumbles to himself under his breath, stuttering on about how nothing is going to be okay and how we’re all doomed. The enemies awkwardly walk away from the Worrier during this period to avoid having anyone nearby think he’s their friend.

3) Little accident: The Worrier leaves a wet trail behind him, blocking pursuers’ path as they are forced to walk around it. When used, friendly followers are stunned for a few seconds.

The Rouge
The Rouge appeals to the player segment that gets annoyed by how dark the game is. With make-up based attacks, the Rouge seeks to brighten up the world around him, making the enemies a bit more beautiful with a fresh layer of beauty products.

Skill Suggestions:

1) Perfume: The Rouge gets too enthusiastic about his application of perfume on target enemy. The enemy gets a debuff that damages both the itself and those near it.

2) Manicure: The Rouge gives target enemy a most fabulous manicure. The enemy gains a debuff that lowers its damage as it doesn’t want to risk breaking a freshly beautified nail.

3) Commedia dell'arte: Puts Mime make-up on target enemy. The enemies around him think he’s trying to do some sort of artistic performance and since none of them wants to be the one admitting that they don’t understand it, they awkwardly stand around for a few seconds before mumbling that they have a dinner appointment. Potential runes include “Force interpretation” which will increase the stun by an additional couple of seconds as the enemies claim it was “Probably about politics or something”.

The So-so’er
A lot of players complain that the game just feels too epic sometimes [Citation needed]. You save the world, heroically bashing demons left and right while feeling awesome. The So-so’er comes as a contrast to this. He’s a jack of all trades but master of absolutely none as everything he does just seems mediocre and playing him just leaves you feeling underwhelmed. I mean he’s not a bad character, but he really doesn’t have anything about him that makes him special. From a lore perspective, the So-so’er’s past is shrouded in mystery, mostly because no one ever cared to write it down.

Skill Suggestions:

1) Melee AoE-thing: The So-so’er spins a bit, doing something that may resemble a whirlwind but really isn’t as awesome at all. Enemies take damage or something, I suppose.

2) Mediocre Spell: Long distance spell for single target damage. Well, not long distance, really just the normal range of a spell. I guess it’s sort of shiny, but nothing you’d really write home about. Potential runes include “Meh” that adds nothing.

3) Avoidance-something: The So-so’er runs a little faster, perhaps gains some increased armor or whatever. The animation for this will just be the regular running animation sped up a little and the description box will read “Note to Self: Have one of the interns write this before release”.

Hmm... I would have a hard time deciding which of these classes I would enjoy the most :-)
