I've Been Banned For No Reason Whatsoever.....(1)Category: Technical SupportMarch-20-2013 3:44 AM PDT (10 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
i bought the game around 2weeks ago after playing the starter edition for free....and now my account is banned for using third party software to gain unfair advantage when i havent even played it.

Im 27 ffs, it doesnt matter to me if im lvl100 and got the best weapons etc, i play for fun.

heres some telltale signs..
1: IM LIKE LVL 9 Do you not think id be a lot higher if i cheated..
2: IM BROKE IN GAME surely id have millions.....
3: IVE NOT PLAYED SINCE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT so id like to see how an idle account not even logged in can get itself banned...

TO BE HONEST: If blizzard and battle.net are saying i NEED to pay for another license to play again i am leaving blizzard and closing my account with battle.net also. I AM NOT purchasing another £45 game license for it just to be banned again in 2weeks due to a buggy and obviously flawed ban system.

Hello there Dubaddict (et al).

First of all, we understand that such an action must be initially quite alarming but we'd really appreciate it if you didn't throw baseless accusations around because all it does is sour the situation and misinform future readers experiencing similar issues.

Our security systems are far from 'buggy' or 'flawed'. They are, in fact, remarkably accurate considering the complexity of the game and the tools used to exploit it. And they contribute immensely to our plight of preserving the integrity of the world of Sanctuary.

Mistakes are possible, of course, but these are extremely rare. The two most common triggers for such an action are:

1) The account did something against our Terms of Use.
2) The account was compromised and used to perform nefarious deeds.

"My account hasn't been compromised!" Well, maybe it has and you don't realise it? For example, you have a level 60/36 Monk on the Korean servers with almost 14 million gold Dubaddict. Was that you?

Anyhoo, if this does happen, then we will gladly help out just like we have with your account Dubaddict, but it's really important that we give credit to our security systems for catching this rather than criticising it out of anger. Not only did we catch a cheat, we also prevented further damage on your account and learned a great deal more about the way these guys work.

If you would like further advice on how to keep your Battle.net account secure and prevent this from happening to you again in the future then please click here.

Thanks, have a nice afternoon. =)

Well, this is the age-old question isn't it Cobbs? Unfortunately, nobody can tell you remotely where the vulnerability came from because it was your system that was 'attacked' and nobody else's. All you can do is be vigilant with your online presences (banks, shopping, games etc.) and do everything you can to protect your digital 'property' and identities from malicious intrusions.

From experience, by far the most common method used to compromise a Battle.net account is though 'phishing' emails. These emails pretend to be from Blizzard and lure folks into providing the information required to gain access to an account, or perhaps sneak a keylogger onto your system in order to detect your password.

The page I linked above should help educate you a little further, and an Authenticator will help immensely. But don't forget that will only protect your Battle.net account and there are much more critical things to protect online nowadays. Arm yourself with knowledge, be disciplined and don't underestimate their methods.
