D3 crashes at startup(1)Category: Technical SupportDecember-30-2015 8:49 AM PST (7 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
The game worked fine last time I played about two weeks ago, but today (after downloading a short update to the B.net client and then to D3), every time I try to launch the game I get the ROS logo for a few seconds and then a message "an unexpected error as occured" pops up and the game doesn't start. (Code I get in the error window : 684CC355-29B4-4FA5-94B8-4388DECCECCD).

My drivers are up to date, the game is I think up to date too (version 2.3.0.34606) and I don't use any overlay third-party programs. I'm on Windows 7-64 bits. I tried launching the game either through the B.net app or through a Diablo III.exe shortcut bypassing the B.net client but the end result is the same.

Syn,

Possible problems as seen in the crash report submitted:

DBG-MODULE<005B0000 0001b000 "EasyHook32.dll" "EasyHook32.pdb" 0 {d523ee72-62d5-4544-ae43356f4975d83d} 12 1236430971>

DBG-MODULE<61F60000 01a43000 "K_FPS.dll" "FPS.pdb" 0 {08657ac9-42a0-463a-acebb9ad365ad706} 1 1387780055>

Try to find what's using Easyhook32.dll on your system and disable/uninstall it if possible.

I believe K_FPS.dll is part of Razer's Game Booster. I'd see about disabling or uninstalling that as well.

Syn,

Easyhook isn't showing anymore. It may have been part of the Game Booster app.

All that's showing now is it's video-related possibly.

It's crashing just as it's "Initializing graphics subsystem..."

I'd suspect the video driver at this point. I can't see which you're using as the crash prevents it from being listed in the D3Debug.txt file.

See if you can update/reinstall the drivers from AMD's support site here.

Syn,

Now your latest crash report is indicating it's due to a known issue with the drivers you're using. It's still crashing just as it's trying to initialize the graphics which you can see by examining your D3Debug.txt file.

Could you please post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it ALL here.

Syn,

As near as I can tell, you're currently using a really old Catalyst 12.5 release driver.

I would recommend using DDU (clicking link will automatically start the download) to uninstall any driver remnants, then install the latest ones (Catalyst 13.9) again listed on AMD's site. Your PC is too old and it's highly doubtful Packard Bell is going to have recent drivers any more for it.
