Slow load times with SSD(1)Category: Technical SupportFebruary-1-2016 6:55 PM PST (7 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
I've been struggling to figure out why D3 loads so slowly compared to so many other games I've tested on my SSD.

It takes about 30 seconds for me to load into a game after clicking start. It may seem insignificant but it's annoying. Especially when doing key runs, ubers, vaults, etc. I consistently find that I'm the last one loading into the game despite the friends I'm playing with using HDDs.

Any help in resolving the issue or figuring out what the problem may be would be greatly appreciated.

Aronos,

It's not reading from your local drive the whole time it's loading. It's doing several checks and getting information from various servers in the Battle.net network that pertain to your characters and account during that time. A slower connection would have more of an impact than a slow local drive being used for storage.

Aronos,

Checking your internet speed to a server nearest you doesn't really mean much when you're checking for latency and packet loss to a game server located elsewhere in the country.

I'd be interested to see the results of the following tests taken at a time you seem to be experiencing the issue.

Also to clarify based on your symptom description above, you're talking about the time it takes to be able to run in a rift after clicking to enter it or are you referring to clicking the "Start Game" button after selecting a character?

Some quick examples I just tried for reference here at the office.

Solo entering a Nephalem rift, after clicking on the portal, I was in in about 2 seconds

Solo clicking the Start Game button after selecting a new character, in the game in about 14 seconds

Solo in game clicking on a waypoint in a different act as if I was going to do a bounty run there, in the game in about 3 seconds.
