I've submitted a request for our QA dept to take a look at this.

Our QA department finished their test and provided me with the results.

Basically, they can reproduce the framerate drop but they can not reproduce how low many of you are reporting it reaching. In their testing, it always recovered in no more than 4 seconds back to around 30 FPS on their test system and game play didn't suffer as far as using the Blacksmith was concerned. Their test system was running the minimum required specs, it was not a high-end machine.

Windows XP 32-bit SP3
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.4GHz
2GB DDR3 RAM
Nvidia 8800 GT, driver 340.52

At 1920x1200x60 using FRAPS and Vertical Sync turned off

At this point, I'd like to start collecting system info from those of you experiencing the problem. I mainly want to see the Operating System, CPU, GPU, system ram, and video drivers being used.

I'd like you to collect this with Microsoft's Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file. Rather than post it all here, I just need everything before the Sound Device section, unless you have a laptop, in which case I need it all as the video device in use is shown further below.

When replying with your info, please indicate whether you're actually getting what you feel is an unplayable experience with the Blacksmith and why or if it's just a noticeable frame rate loss but still usable.

Rooftop,

I need a more detailed description than "serious fps drop" please. Your hardware is well able to run the game and shouldn't be seeing what I'd call a serious drop in performance. A momentary one is normal right now, especially with "all" selected, but it shouldn't be affecting gameplay.

Can you tell me your FPS before, during and after you've clicked on the blacksmith?

Nitwhick,

Without the info asked for in this thread (http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/19072448165#11), your description of the problem doesn't really offer any help we can use in determining the cause or if anything can be done about it.

I need your dxdiag info please.
