Problems on Wifi preventing game playing.(1)Category: Technical SupportJune-28-2015 9:44 PM PDT (7 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Im not really sure what the problem is completely. I have a thought on what it is but havnt been able to narrow it down too much.
I run windows 8.1, and my laptop is fairly new, until recently I was able to play D3 on wifi just fine but as of recently it will play fine for about 3-5 minutes before it laggs hard, as if it is trying to catch up and then it works for a few more seconds before it repeats, it laggs for a good amount of time(30 seconds and up).
If I play the game on an ethernet connection it works fine.
I am not sure if it is my wifi, my wifi adapter in my laptop, I dont think its my internet as the ethernet works fine. I dont think time of day has any effect ive tried at all kinds of different times. and it is only d3, surfing the web works just fine. I would try other games but i really dont play any other heavy internet dependent games.

I am curious if anyone has this same problem, or any thoughts as to whats going on.

Id prefer not to go to a repair store and pay for a simple fix if it is that, I also dont want to have them watch me play to see whats up.

Killerfate,

If it's not built-in, what make and model WiFi adapter are you using? What make and model wireless router are you using?

Killerfate,

I wanted to see if you were perhaps using 802.11 ac as a connection method as I'm investigating other reports about that in another thread. You're not though. Your symptom description sounds pretty much like a poor WiFi connection. Basic troubleshooting for that would include trying another client adapter (difficult as you're using an on-board model in a laptop, but a USB model could be used if you have access to one). You can try another wireless router which is probably the first thing I'd suggest. You can probably get Frontier to provide another one if you let them know you're experiencing problems wireless but not wired. You can also try re-locating your laptop closer to the router or the router closer to your laptop so as to have less obstacles between them.

Your router also may be on a channel congested by other wireless networks nearby. You can download free utilities that will scan your area for networks and display if and how they're overlapping and could then change the channel yours is using if necessary.
