| Spades #1104 | Windows 10 Insider Preview support ?(1) | Category: Technical SupportMay-6-2015 12:44 PM PDT (8 years ago) |
I'm taking a huge leap today installing this on a fresh HD and using it as my main OS until official launch to possibly help form what it may be when it does launch.
My question mainly is: If anybody has also installed this, does Diablo work ?
I know Microsoft states its unstable, there will be issues with programs.. I'm merely trying to think ahead to make sure I don't need my other Windows drive dual booted to continue to play while I test.
If nothing surfaces and every one is against this system completely (I'd understand lol) I'll post my findings when I come across anything.

I'm taking a huge leap today installing this on a fresh HD and using it as my main OS This isn't really a good idea. It's much better to be able to dual-boot to another OS if needed. As for compatibility, we've not done any testing that I can comment on but users report it works more or less with a few issues here and there. ______________________________________________________________ I'm available in the forums Monday - Friday 6:30 am - 3:30 pm Pacific Time, Feedback? - https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Omrakos

My main system is Linux Mint, I'll dual boot with grub knowing that Winderp won't be able to mess with that file system. I'm keeping my Vista (gaming) drive intact, of course, just in case it doesn't work out it's a sata swap away to go back. My use of Linux alone should entail that I'm ready for leaps and bounds, of course being Winderp beta its a given. With limited testing from your side I'll be sure to post any findings here (If thats kosher) as well as forward them to Microsoft to help iron any kinks out for when it goes public and gamers inevitably switch.
I'm sticking with the trusted Win 7 until D3 is listed as compatible w/ Win 10. Better safe than sorry, in this case.

My question mainly is: If anybody has also installed this, does Diablo work ? I've been using Windows 10 Preview for about 2-3 months now without any issues. Diablo runs rock stable, I can't remember a single crash or issue with it. The things that are being worked on and might cause some hassle here or there are network-related issues, from what I've heard; the only time I messed up my Win 10 and had to re-install was when I tried to install VirtualBox to set up a parallel Windows 7 installation (ironic, right?). But all applications are running just fine, including Diablo 3. The beta is nearing its end (rumors are the release date is in 2 months), so it's not like you're installing some super unstable system. That being said, as with every beta you need to be prepared for the worst, but as a Linux user it sounds like you're tech-savvy enough, so I'd say go for it. For a completely inexperienced user the usual Windows rule applies anyways - which is "wait for the first service pack" ;-)
It's very much stable :), aside from the fact diablo 3 runs flawlessly if not better than on my vista drive, Microsoft really outdid themselves with 10. Keeping it relevent however, blizzard should have no future compatibility issues regarding win10 that wouldn't initially be caused by user input. With the release of 10 nearing, if you're reading this and intrigued already into switching, don't. Wait for the official release as your window 7 and 8 PCs will most likely receive 10 for free. The preview doesn't allow for upgrade (period) unless retail is purchased or 7 or 8 be reinstalled (you don't want to go through that - especially for 8)
(Little irrelevant) Win10 is worth the switch when stable.(especially if on 8) Its more polished, cleaner, more organized and just downright better than 8. With a few options the privacy problems can be turned off, but at least you're able to find the options logically in this version! Lol

Theoretically, he could also run Windows 10 in a virtual machine, and load Diablo on that, right? I remember doing that to Windows 8 when that was in beta, and Diablo ran perfectly fine, aside from the fact that I had to increase the volume a little bit. EDIT: Whoops, too late. Really oughta read the whole thread, LOL! I'll keep this post up though if anyone else wants to try this, and if it's at all possible.
