Having a problem with D3D device.(1)Category: Technical SupportApril-3-2015 1:28 PM PDT (8 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Hi,

I recently did a factory reset on my computer and Diablo 3 won't launch. I'm having the D3D device error. I've been checking around on the forum for fixes but nothing seems to work. I altered my D3prefs.txt to match my resolution and refresh rate (1600 x 900, 60Hz), didn't worked. Try lunching in compatibility mode, same results. I have a smaller screen hooked up on my laptop with a DVI-D to HDMI adapter, but having plugged or not doesn't change a thing. I've update directx and my video card driver, same again. So I am now out of solutions.

If you have a solution for my I would be very grateful.

Valeon ,

Can you post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it ALL here.

Could you also post your D3Debug.txt file? It's located in the main Diablo III game folder.

Valeon ,

Have you updated your Nvidia drivers recently? How about Windows Update? Was that run recently or if you have it set to automatically update, did you notice any updates being applied recently?

You might try seeing if you're able to use Nvidia's reference video drivers or not. The latest release is quite a bit newer than what you have currently.
