At the moment I feel like this ring is just too clunky. It's a fantastic idea that I've wanted to see implemented for ages, but 5 seconds is just too long. The fantasy of this playstyle, at least to me, is weaving between the various elements to create a really dynamic playstyle. As is it's just "put some number of various elemental damage on your bar and spam until the next buff rolls around". For that matter some classes just have too many elements to focus on. For example Monk has fire, cold, lightning, holy, Physical. It's too many things to fit into one build. I can live with a build that focuses on 3 elements and is just out of luck on the 4th, but out of luck for 10 whole seconds per 25 second rotation when you have to sacrifice so much just to make the build even kind of function. Another problem is specialization / focus. If you are trying to fit in enough offensive skills to use this ring at least 3/4 of the time you have to sacrifice a tremendous amount of damage focus and damage. Elemental damage is dramatically less effective because it's split so many different ways and there's no appropriate offensive replacement for this on gear (although another defensive affix is not without value, it's just not quite as valuable as offense generally speaking). You also have to sacrifice damage and utility in your build for a damage skill that you generally only want to use 25% of the time (or less). The sacrifice this ring asks you to make is absolutely tremendous and it's clunky rather than the dynamic multi-elemental flow many of us were hoping for. Suggestion: The rotation and elemental composition stays the same the rotating buff is changed to 3 seconds. Instead of buffing your damage with that element though, using a skill of that elemental type will increase your damage by the appropriate amount for 4 seconds (this will only activate once per element and does not stack with itself). The 4 second buff timer allows some breathing room if you are only running 4/5 elements, but also causes the buff to drop off and the outlook would get worse and worse as you rotated out more and more elements. The skill activation requirement also allows you to use skills that don't deal damage to help uou fulfil the combo so you dont have to toss random low damage skills just to proc it. |

This is a great topic of discussion. We've heard valuable feedback on the BlizzCon Elemental Ring so far, and seen some interesting builds around it – both in this thread and elsewhere across our forums and other communities – and we'll continue to share everyone’s thoughts with the dev team as they pop up (be they positive or negative, so long as the discussion is constructive). While we're on the subject, it would be helpful to know:
Let's keep this awesome exchange of ideas going, folks! :D |

I quite like the ring for jade set, cold locust swarm and poison haunt, the DOT damage ticks update when the ring rotates to the correct element While it's helpful to hear about what builds aren't possible because of how an item works, this type of feedback is also good to hear, since it helps us identify builds (even popular ones) that can potentially take advantage of this set. Thanks for this, Slaal. :) |

I like the idea of the elemental ring, but the animation is lacking. To figure out which element is active, I have to look away from the action of the battle I'm in and down to the small box. The color palette of the elements is subtle and not distinct. Playing DH, the only one I could easily recognize was fire, because the red stands out. But still, to do that, I'm paying attention to the little box and not the battle I'm in. I really like that this points out a case where, simply because of how the user interface is set up, the icon can become more of a hindrance than a help, or ends up pulling you out of your gameplay too frequently (i.e. beyond just checking it really quickly). Definitely passing this on. Great feedback, Phaelanx! |

Having to look at the buff indicator is pretty annoying. How about adding a glow around your player with a color of the represented element? Great suggestion! We've been working on a visual effect that's similar to the one you described, so it'll be easier to see which elemental buff on the ring is currently active. This change will be coming in an upcoming PTR patch, so please let us know what you think once you spot it. |
