Game Crash: "D3 Cannot Validate Core Files"(1)Category: Technical SupportOctober-14-2014 9:18 AM PDT (8 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Hello!

I am having an issue that causes my game to crash as soon as in-game gameplay begins. I can poke around in the main menu for minutes or even hours with no issues but as soon as I start game and load up, within 5 seconds my game crashes and says "Diablo III cannot validate core game files."

I have not been able to get further in the game because of this crash. It's important to note that I was able to play 5+ hours of gameplay with no issues during the "playable" phase of the download. As soon as my download completes though, I crash during just about any amount of gameplay. To me this indicates either the installation is bad or my hard drive is bad. But I'm not an expert and thats why I'm posting.

What I've Tried:

Reinstalling Diablo 3.
Reinstalling video and audio drivers.
Reinstalling windows entirely including all updates and drivers.
I have tested lowering graphics settings to the lowest setting.
I have also tested a few fixes i discovered on this forum or similar support forum for Diablo 3.
- Deleting Patch files to force redownload/install
- Tinkering with in-game settings

I'm probably missing a few things I've tested as I've been on and off trying to fix my Diablo 3 install for a few weeks now. I have a strong feeling that it is not hardware related (unless possibly my solid state drive has issues) for two reasons, 1 - I've tried lowering all settings to no success and 2 - My hardware specs are above and beyond what is required to play Diablo 3.

I can list my computer specs and I would be happy to provide debug text if that could help. I appreciate any help or suggestions anyone has and just want to get my D3 fixed.

Thanks!

Instinct,

The normal fix for this error, which suggests file corruption, is to delete the applicable file. In this case it's "Data_D3\PC\MPQs\Cache\base\patch-base-26451.mpq". You would have done this already though with the full re-install you said you'd tried.

I see nothing really in your D3Debug file that would suggest any potential problems.

I do see that you have the game on your "E" drive. If you have space on another, you might try moving the entire game folder and make the necessary change in the desktop app to reflect the new location and see if it still occurs, after first deleting the file I mentioned above and letting it be reacquired.
