Random SystemCrashes while playing Diablo 2.1(1)Category: Mac Technical SupportOctober-10-2014 5:01 PM PDT (10 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Hello, ever since 2.1 came out I am battling with system crashes while playing the game and its particular annoying as I am playing HC only. It happens about once every 1 - 2 hour sometimes longer and it can happen everywhere while playing. I want to emphasise that these are not game crashes, I am not able to close the game client and start over again, no it locks up the whole computer and a complete restart is necessary. I have to make sure that this happens fast as I don't want to loose my season char (asia/aussi).
Here is what happens, the screen goes completely dark for about a second and than come back to normal with our beloved disco ball doing its thing. I can move the mouse just fine but thats it, I am stuck there. There are no crash reports, no debug entries.

I have tried to resolve the problem with tons suggestions you can find here in the forums.

  • Delete the cache folder plus agend.db
  • Repair game files
  • Change the hardware class to 1 in the D3prefs file
  • Disabled sound
  • Reduced the graphic options to the absolute minimum
  • Closed all apps running the background
  • Disconnected any unnecessary hardware like hard drives printers
  • Reinstalled the game multiple times
  • Disconnected my tv (it appears to be always mirrored even though its on standby)

non of those measures are helping and its so frustrating since it never happened before 2.1.

teejayhh, this crash appears to show corrupted game data or being unable to access it properly. I know that you already did a Scan/Repair, but have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game? Additionally, you may want to check that the permissions on the Diablo III game folder are consistent:

    1. Using Finder, navigate to the /Applications directory.
    2. Right-click the Diablo III game folder and select Get Info.
    3. In the info box, go to the Sharing & Permissions section and click on the lock to unlock it. Enter your administrator password when prompted.
    4. Make sure all privileges are set to Read & Write.
    5. Click on the Action icon (cogwheel) and select Apply to all enclosed items. Select Yes to confirm the action.

Note: Step 5 must be done, even if the folder already displays Read & Write privileges. This helps ensure all enclosed files have the same permissions.
