The world of Sanctuary is a BIG place, defended by hundreds of thousands of heroes each and every day. To help you get to know some of these fellow nephalem a little better, we've created the Fresh Meat N' Greet.

The Fresh Meet N' Greet is a recurring series of interviews featuring you, our community. A few times each month, we'll sit down and chat with six different community members, one for each class, and then post our Q&As right here in these forums.

Up this week for Monks: R3W1ND#2713

Read on below to find out more about your fellow ally in battle!

[GENERAL INFO]

Grimiku: Tell us a bit about yourself.

R3W1ND: Hi there, My name is Kaloyan but my friends call me Yan. Yup, the hexing pants of RoS are named after me hehe. I’m 38 years of age so I guess I’m a bit older than the bigger part of Diablo fans. Originally Bulgarian I now live and work in UK.

Grimiku: Got any cool hobbies or talents?

R3W1ND: RESPONSE

Grimiku: How long have you been playing Diablo games?

R3W1ND: RESPONSE

Grimiku: What other games are you currently playing right now (if any)?

R3W1ND: RESPONSE

Grimiku: Do you play any other classes?

R3W1ND: I jump for a day or so between my Witch Doctor but always come back to Monk.

Grimiku: Are you in a great clan or community? If yes, tell us about them!

R3W1ND: We are a small clan - about 20 people in and know each other from 1.0.8 days (well, most of us do)
I also have a community called “Crafting Mats”, which was aimed to help novice and not so well geared players get that crafting mat they really needed in order to craft some Epic gear. It has fallen behind a little since the removal of the crafting materials but I think it will pick up once again with patch 2.1 and hellfire amulets.

Grimiku: Do you normally play solo or in groups?

R3W1ND: I much prefer groups. Honestly if it wasn’t for coop play I would have probably changed the game by now. D3 is a great game in its core, but what sells it for me is the ability to both play and have some nice banter with other players.

Grimiku: What's your most embarrassing moment while playing?

R3W1ND: Oh, do I really have to tell? :)
Ok then,
Back in 1.0.8 I had forum thread over in the EU forums where I helped under geared players get that godly hellfire ring. It was a big, popular thread. - 15 pages long if I remember correctly.

One day I get 2 guys asking for help, they would bring infernal Machines, I’d kill the uber bosses for them with my Monk. All good, I’ve done it hundreds of times so I’m fairly confident.
We start the game, get 5NV stacks, open up a portal and I easily go through the first pair of bosses. Port to town, do a routine repair and jump into the second one.

This one proved much more difficult, It was Skeleton King and Maghda, while it was natural this was a harder couple to print down, it just felt like it took ages. Never mind, finally got it done, port to town, repair, jump into Kulle/Siegebreaker. There were notoriously hard to bring down for Monk as Sigebreaker reflect and knock back caused too much trouble. So I start and die pretty quick. Ok, happens, no one is perfect I say to the guys, let’s go again…. 3.2.1 - dead again. One more time - same. Siege just destroyed me. Kept trying a good 45 minutes and the guys finally lost patience and left. I felt horrible!

Determined to beat them tho, I started a new game I go ahead and jump into to the action solo, no NV stacks, nothing. Luckily i get SB/Kulle first but result was the same - Siege just was too strong. Went to merchant to repair and then it hit me! I had accidentally switched my Witching hour belt with a blue one in one of the previous repair/sell visits to the merchant and had sold it in the process. As it was a new game the belt was forever lost… I felt pretty upset but had some other WH belts in stash and although they were no where near the lost one they were just enough and I was finally able to defeat the couple. So much frustration and embarrassment that night lol.

Grimiku: Okay, what about your most AWESOME moment while playing?

R3W1ND: D3 being a loot game the most awesome moment must surely be tied to some epic loot right? It was for me at least. I will never forget having an Epic BK set barb gloves dropping on my Monk back in 1.0.8. Sold them on AH for some good gold, which helped me gear my monk and bring her to a whole new level. Awesome memories.

Grimiku: If you were a member of the Angiris Council, what aspect would you be and why?

[FEEL THE WRATH OF YTAR]

Grimiku: What drew you to the Monk?

R3W1ND: Monk wasn’t my first class. When I started playing I first chose Wizard, not because I did not consider interesting but quite the opposite. I have always been a fan of Arcade games due to how action packed they are.

The second I saw Monk as a class in D3 I know this would be the class for me but I wanted to try something else first. Did my first play through with Wizard and even though I found the class interesting to play with, it just didn’t feel right for me. Then I hopped on WD and played a fair bit. Had good fun while doing it but I’d be lying if I said that I was settled with it. So there I went for the inevitable. Made my first monk and had an absolute blast.

Fast punches, swift movement, and powerful, well timed attacks was everything I could ask for from my character. I found playing monk well required considerably more skill than playing barb or a Wizard at the time, which added an additional element of challenge to the game.

Sure, every now and then I keep going back to my Witch Doctor or Barb for a short while and while I find the short change refreshing, I can certainly say Monk is what I enjoy best.

Grimiku: Do you prefer the fantasy of fighting with fists, 1-handed weapons, or a Daibo?

R3W1ND: While Ideally I’d prefer using a Daibo in game I find them very slow, which is the complete opposite or a real world Bo staff. Until they become at least as fast as wielding two 1 handers (I believe they should be even faster) I’d always chose having speed for my monk, and therefore take 2 one handers.
Just a quick fact: An average 6ft Bo Staff made from Oak weighs about 1.7lbs. An average 1 handed steel sword weighs 4.5lbs and 1 handed Steel Mace about 6lbs.

Grimiku: What's your favorite skill (or skill rune), and why?

R3W1ND: Back in 1.0.8 It was Fist of Thunder (Thunderclap or Quickening were my top choices). With the current change to attack speed and adjustment to generators speed FoT no longer feels like a Monk skill so I have moved elsewhere. Right now I love playing with Wall of Light (holy bell). Even though the damage output is too low, it just feels like it has a very close, intimate relation with Monks fantasy. Every time I imagine Monks meditating or training in a monastery I can’t help but see this massive bell somewhere in the background. :)

Grimiku: What build are you running currently?

R3W1ND: Well, as of right now diversity is somewhat restrictive so I just go with 4 piece Sunwuko gear with a staff, simply because nothing else comes even remotely close to it.
My Ideal setup, in a perfect world, where I was able to change rune elements, generators speed, etc would be:

LMB: FoT - Quickening
RMB: Deadly Reach - damage rune
1 - Mantra of choice (vary with idea behind the build)
2 - Dashing Strike
3 - Inner Sanctuary
4 - Holy Bell

Grimiku: If there was one thing you could change about the Monk, what would it be?

R3W1ND: Easy - I would adjust spirit generators to both deal noticeable damage to the point a pure multi generator build becomes competitive (with the use of combination strike passive) and generate enough spirit to make them the preferred method of generating spirit. Currently there is just too much passive (including conditional) and far too little active spirit regen.

Grimiku: What musical instrument would your Monk like to learn how to play?

R3W1ND: Something he can easily convert to deadly weapon if needed - Like a flute I guess :D

Grimiku: What’s your favorite martial arts style?

R3W1ND: both Bojitsu and Kiokoshin

Grimiku: Pick a Monk quote!

R3W1ND: Do not let enemy anger become you anger!
