Screen freezes, sound continues to play(1)Category: Technical SupportAugust-28-2014 6:28 PM PDT (8 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
I stopped playing Diablo 3 not long after RoS came out, and I never had this problem.

Right now when I am playing Diablo 3, whenever I start up the game everything is fine. I can log in with a character and run around town perfectly fine. However whenever I leave town, only a few seconds outside of town (Usually after an ability is cast) the screen will freeze.

However it also doesn't appear that the game freezes. I can hear my character running around. I hear my abilities being cast. However the "Freeze" never ends. This has happened several times now.

I was unfortunate enough to hope for the best in Rifts, and lost a few keystones because of this. The only way to stop the Freeze is to completely close out the game and restart it.

And finally I am running on a rather high end computer. My graphics card is a NVIDIA Geforce GTX 780.

I have the same problem you are describing, even during RoS release. However, now I can barely stay on d3 today for more then 5 minutes before the freeze happens. However, during patch day tuesday and wednesday, the game worked perfectly fine.

I use a Radeon HD 7700. I tried a bunch of the similar problems in other threads, but nothing has showed promise.

I haven't noticed whether or not it is fine on patch day. All I knows it that it is happening consistently now.

Vorak,

While there have been a few reports of this symptom, we've yet to be able to reproduce it in-house.

One thing we'd like you to try is to configure your Desktop App to close after a game is launched.

To do that,

Open the Desktop App
Click on the blue Battle.net icon on the upper left
Select settings
Under the "When I Launch A Game" section, select "Exit Battle.net completely"

Click Done and launch the game and see if you can the freeze to happen again.

This has happened to me several times in the past while playing using a fullscreen window. I just log off Windows and log back in to unfreeze and continue playing. It might not be applicable to you since you might just get 'frozen' again after using another skill.

This is has been happening to me as well, has been for awhile ever since RoS was released. I am the only one out of all my friends that play that has this happening. And I notice that it happens significantly more when we play together, and happens every now and then in solo play. Im just glad to see that I am not the only one having this issue anymore. It is not my settings, because I have matched them exactly to my friends and it still happens. Its even more annoying now that it's happening while we are trying to level for this season. Can you guys get on this to find some kind of solution please?

Started having the same problem recently. Surprisingly, it only started after lowering my graphic settings and turning it to windowed mode so I could watch netflix and play at the same time. Now, no matter what I do to graphics, it still has this screen freeze after a few minutes.

Edit: Running the repair tool seemed to fix it, only been going for about 15 minutes but no freeze yet.

Edit 2: Ran for about an hour (longest yet) and then froze again.

Edit 3: Deleted cache and trying again, going on about 30 minutes now with no crash.
