Screen Resolution does not help(1)Category: Technical SupportAugust-27-2014 4:20 PM PDT (8 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
So I downloaded the new patch, and ever since I did I can not play the game. It cuts off and tells me that I need to run my monitor on 1440x900. I do so and it still wont run. I never had to switch the resolution to play before.

Any ideas?

Gizzlejuice,

Can you post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it ALL here.

Could you also post your D3Prefs.txt file? It's located in the My Documents\Diablo III folder.

Gizzlejuice,

You cut off the dxdiag info way too soon, but from the D3Prefs.txt file, I'd suggest changing this line as a start, but I'll still need to see the whole dxdiag in order to see what monitor you're using and its capabilities:

DisplayModeRefreshRate "120"

to

DisplayModeRefreshRate "60"

Gizzlejuice,

Can you tell me the actual brand and model number of the monitor?

Your dxdiag info isn't pulling it up.

Current Mode: 1440 x 900 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor Name: Generic Non-PnP Monitor
Monitor Model: unknown
Monitor Id:
Native Mode: unknown

Thanks -

This monitor isn't capable of a 120 Hz refresh rate which is why it was messing up that way.

You have the game set to 1024 by 768

DisplayModeWidth "1024"
DisplayModeHeight "768"

Which isn't going to look all that good I wouldn't think.

Try editing the D3Prefs.txt file and set the res to the native rate of 1440 by 900

Change the above lines to:

DisplayModeWidth "1440"
DisplayModeHeight "900"
