Noob Questions about Artisans(1)Category: New Player HelpSeptember-3-2014 4:36 PM PDT (10 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Ok so I recently picked up the Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil for PS4. Love the game, having a lot of fun with it, but I am getting confused when it comes to Artisans. When I first got the blacksmith and saw I could train him, I just started picking random things to train him with. I didn't really consider training him in things that benefit my character, a crusader. I started to become more conscious of it as I played more because I wanted recipes that my character could use. Now I have the Jeweler, and I once again started training him, this time picking mainly ruby recipes for the strength boosts rubies give. However I see you can only train them to 10 and I am starting to get worried about being able to teach them all the recipes. So...

1.) Can an Artisan learn every recipe? I know you can teach Blacksmith recipes through items you pick up, but if I passed over something that might have been useful while training him, can I still pick teach it to him later? In the case of the jeweler, can I teach him every recipe for combining lesser gems into better gems? This is the main thing I'm worried about, because I want to be able to upgrade every kind of jewel into a better version.

2.) Does every character you make share artisans? This is what really worries me, because I don't want me focusing on one type of weapon/armor/stat on one character to negatively impact another character that uses a different weapon/armor/stat.

3.) Any general tips on training my artisans? Did I screw myself picking a Crossbow recipe for my blacksmith while training him on my crusader?

Thanks in advance for any insight anyone can offer me!

Hey, Decon!

Thanks for picking up Ultimate Evil Edition, and I hope your having fun with it. I'm sorry to hear you had a little bit of frustration with finding out the answer to your questions about artisans, though. I'll do my best to answer them, and I think you'll be happy with the answers. The short version is they can learn everything, and there isn't really any way to mess them up in a permanent way. :)

1.) Can an Artisan learn every recipe?

Yes, an artisan can learn every recipe available to them. Each time you train your artisan they automatically gain a number of predetermined recipes.

2.) Does every character you make share artisans?

Yes, the artisans are shared between all the characters on the account. However, items created by your artisans are tailored for the character your playing when you request them. So, if you learn how to make level 17 chest armor on your Barbarian you can swap to your level 17 Wizard and the Blacksmith will automatically create items with Intelligence instead of Strength.

3.) Any general tips on training my artisans?

I recommend just making sure you level them up when you can comfortably afford it. There's no way to mess them up in a permanent way, so don't worry about that part of it. Have fun, and good hunting!
