Hi,

I'd like to ask for your assistance with this matter. I've been encountering some video problems after installing the latest patch (The game was playing smoothly prior to the patch). I've also submitted a report under Ticket US46208669.

Some Error Codes :
92D08976-B10B-4E18-BDF1-34B1CF3C5042
FF9D9F42-91D5-4D61-B64E-8945B9B04C3C
12150B4D-1CD4-4B04-BA43-5E7CC60A72F6

There are several scenarios (tested in windowed mode and fullscreen - no difference with the 2 modes):

1. LOW SETTINGS (Driver 340.52): texture quality (low), shadow quality (off), physics (low), clutter density (low), anti-aliasing (off), low-FX enabled, VSYNC (on), Max Foreground FPS (disabled)
    - screen flickers when moving (only when character moves)
    - frequent black screens (2-5 seconds), game does not stop, audio can be heard
    - attacks have a delayed animation, projectiles frequently don't show (even if the attack is executed)
    - D3 closes with error msg (less than 5 minutes gameplay) OR
    - BSOD after a few minutes (less than 5 minutes gameplay)

CPUID HWMonitor data (if noted before game or OS failure):

    Per core (4 cores) MIN: 49 deg C/120 deg F MAX: 58 deg C/136 deg F
    Assembly MIN: 42 deg C/107 deg F
    GPU MIN: 48 deg C/118 deg F MAX: 65 deg C/149 deg F

2. Nvidia "Optimized" settings (Driver 340.52): texture quality (high), shadow quality (low), physics (high), clutter density (high), anti-aliasing (on), low-FX disabled, VSYNC (on), Max Foreground FPS (disabled)
    - game plays smoothly however
    - attacks from elite affixes are delayed (eg. damage numbers appear over character followed by the lightning strike after a few seconds)
    - D3 closes with error msg (30 minutes gameplay)
    - PC shuts down forcibly after 30 (or so) minutes of gameplay.

CPUID HWMonitor data (if noted before game or OS failure):

    Per core (4 cores) MIN: 49 deg C/120 deg F MAX: 58 deg C/136 deg F
    Assembly MIN: 42 deg C/107 deg F
    GPU MIN: 48 deg C/118 deg F MAX: 74 deg C/165 deg F

3. Known good settings (Driver 337.88): texture quality (low), shadow quality (off), physics (low), clutter density (low), anti-aliasing (on), low-FX disabled, VSYNC (off), Max Foreground FPS (40)
    - game plays smoothly, does not crash
    - "black screen" occurs when there are multiple mobs on screen or teleporting/charging elites - this lasts from 1 to more than 10 seconds
    - This was originally reported under Ticket US45563389, the fix was installing nvidia driver 340.52 and changing desktop theme to "Windows Classic"

CPUID HWMonitor data (if noted before game or OS failure):

    Per core (4 cores) MIN: 49 deg C/120 deg F MAX: 58 deg C/136 deg F
    Assembly MIN: 42 deg C/107 deg F
    GPU MIN: 48 deg C/118 deg F MAX: 57 deg C/134 deg F

I already completed the troubleshooting steps detailed in your guides, as well as those recommended in my previous tickets.

Extra Troubleshooting steps done with PC:

1. Updated BIOS

2. Updated Nvidia GT 430 drivers (v 340.52, also tried to roll back to last known good driver 337.88), Physical GPU cleaned
- in Nvidia control panel all items are set to default except:
* Power Management - selected "prefer maximum performance" over "adaptive"
- reason, when set to "adaptive", I get frequent black screens. If I set D3 to windowed mode, I see the black screens are caused by Nvidia prompts (device driver failed and has recovered).
* Multi display/mixed-GPU acceleration - selected "single display performance mode"

3. Updated Network drivers, router reset

4. Checked Device Manager
- found 4 Nvidia sound drivers, disabled 3

5. D3Prefs file editted - set hardware class to "2" and Disable Trilinear Filterning to "1"

6. Latest Win7 updates installed

7. tested with AVG anti virus disabled, no difference in outcome

8. Desktop theme set to "Windows Classic", Aero disabled

Additional Questions:

1. Which would be the best option for the PhysX processor, the GPU or the CPU? (I read in the forums that someone had a bit of success with this problem by setting the CPU as the physx proc)

2. Is it better to activate Vsync in game or with the nvidia control panel? Is it better to use Vsync or set max FPS?

3. I noticed that before the patch, shadows on low settings are circular blobs under the character. Now, shadows on low settings resemble black pixel characters. What made this change? Is there a way to revert back to the previous settings (which look way better)?

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Zauriel,

You may be thinking that anyone reporting a black screen is having the same issue as you but that's not necessarily the case at all.

Underclocking the GPU as you did is a common fix for the TDR situation. "nvidia drivers stopped and have recovered".

Since you've mentioned TDR, I assume you know what it is but in case you're not that familiar with it, I'd like to direct you to a post on Nvidia's forum where it's discussed in great length. Several possible causes and fixes are also listed.

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/389688/geforce-drivers/nvidia-statement-on-tdr-errors-display-driver-nvlddmkm-stopped-/

I may have missed it but have you tried using a different video card yet?
