As the days drew ever-closer to the release of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls™, artisans from around the world rallied the tools of their trade to portray the heroes of Sanctuary or Malthael preparing for the coming conflict. There were over $11,000 worth of prizes and a two-night trip to Blizzard HQ in Irvine, California up for grabs, so the competition was sure to be as fierce as any battle within the mortal realms!
One by one, these dedicated artists tapped into their innate abilities and honed their skills, and by the time the deadline for the contest drew to a close, an incredible 3,619 pieces of stunning artwork had been submitted! The sheer talent of each and every one of these artists is astounding, and we highly encourage you to feast your eyes on all of the contest entries.
Out of the twenty-five semi-finalists chosen by deviantART staff, Christian Lichtner, Art Director of Diablo III, had the arduous task of selecting three winners whose work best embodied the spirit of the contest. We are pleased to reveal the winners below!
First Place

Judge's comments:
The composition of this piece powerfully illustrates the strength of the Barbarian, at the same time the execution of the lighting and mood really sets this piece apart! Every little detail cleverly tells a story, while focusing on the epic quest the Barbarian is about to embark upon!

This painting really gives such a powerful sense of the Monk's history and character. The lighting is beautifully executed and reinforces the focal area to capture a moment in time, with so many great little design touches throughout!
