Fixed an issue that prevented players from purchasing class-specific Legendary items for other classes from Kadala

Now we can gamble class items for all classes regardless of the class gambling on. This is a TERRIBLE idea. I just gambled Jade shoulders and Akkhan shoulders on my barb in 370 shards spent on shoulders. Why is this bad you ask? The odds of you getting a item that you want or can use for the class you are playing are SEVERELY diminished with this nonsensical change now that every single item for the slot you are gambling on for every character and not just the one you are using is available.

This is a terrible idea Blizzard, if we want items for another class while gambling we can just change to that class and spend our shards on them. Shards are not going to be as easy to come by in 2.1 with the inevitable death of RiF since there is no incentive to actually participate in it with everyone being required to pay a key to progress. All this does is makes the shards you now have even less valuable and harder to get what you are looking for. If I'm spending shards on my Barb I SURE AS HELL DON"T WANT WITCH DOCTOR ITEMS!!!!!!!

Why, why, why do you make foolish and unfounded changes like this and label it a "bug fix"?

There’s currently an active bug on the PTR that is causing Kadala to give players off-class gear when she shouldn't be. We plan on addressing this issue in the near future (ideally before 2.1.0 goes live), and we'll be sure to let all of you know when we do. If the fix makes it into the PTR, we'll include it as a line the PTR patch notes.

Here’s a little more on what happened, though, for those of you who are curious. Previously, there was an active bug that sometimes caused players to lose Blood Shards whenever purchasing an item from Kadala. The result was that players would spend their Shards, but not receive any item return. This bug had a chance to occur whenever a player purchased a class-specific item (like a Mojo or Source) with a class that couldn’t equip it (like a Barbarian), and the game then happened to roll that item as a Legendary. The fix for this older bug, which went live in with the most recent PTR build, had an unintended side effect of giving Kadala a chance to offer off-class Legendary items when she shouldn't be.

I appreciate the response and clarification but please keep it as it is in live where you cannot get off class items for other classes while you are gambling. It is in now way "fun" or "rewarding" to get Witch Doctor or Crusader pieces when you are gambling with your Barbarian. If we want off class items we can just do what we do now and switch to the class.

Thanks for writing up your feedback, and I'll try and make the situation a little clearer since it's sort of confusing. To bring everyone up to speed, there is a bug on the PTR with Kadala where she is giving off-class items to players when she shouldn't be.

For the most part, and with only one very small exception, we intend for Kadala to continue to work like she currently does on live. What that specifically means is that is all Legendary items obtained from Kadala will continue to be tailored for the character purchasing them so long as it's something that character can equip. That is, all loot purchased from Kadala should be 100% smart loot.

The only exception to the above rule comes into play when a character is purchasing an item from Kadala that they cannot equip (like a Barbarian purchasing a Mojo or Source, for example). In those situations it will be possible for the player to obtain a Legendary item that is not tailored for their current hero.

Examples can help in this case, so here are a few to help illustrate what’s up.

  • A Barbarian starts spending Blood Shards on a Mystery Mojo, and the game decides that one of those Mojos is a Legendary. Currently on live, that Barbarian loses their Blood Shards, and actually gets no item, because Kadala is bugged in way that keeps her from ever giving a player a Legendary if the item is something they can't equip. We’re working to fix this issue for patch 2.1.0 so that the Barbarian can successfully purchase a Legendary Mojo (if he or she wishes).

  • Let’s say the same Barbarian purchases Mystery Shoulders from Kadala, and the game decides they should part of a set. Those shoulders should be something the Barbarian can actually use, like Raekor's Burden, Spires of the Earth, or Burden of the Invoker. They should not be part of a set that belongs to another class, like Firebird’s or Zunimassa’s. Right now on the PTR, however, there’s a bug that’s causing players to receive off-class items when they shouldn’t be.

Hope this helps! I’ll be adjusting my previous post to remove some of the ambiguity as well.

Don't twist the words...he means when RNG decides...which is a part of the game. All items are created upon purchase and not per game.

Correct. For reference:

For clarity, items and their stats are determined at the time that they're generated in the game world. In most situations, this is when the item physically drops (like from a monster, a chest, or a destructible). In cases where there isn't a physical drop, items and their stats are determined as soon the game creates them. For example, items from Kadala are generated as soon as they're purchased.

Let's keep this thread on topic, though, and focused on the PTR.

Cheers!
