| When i bought Diablo3 at launch I had already decided that Monk was ganna be my class. I have always had a thing for martial arts, and the Monk's description sounded like so much fun. All the way through Vanilla I played almost only my Monk. Tapped a little into Demonhunter, but other than that ,it was Monk all the way. Slowly and steadily she grew stronger, until she was a top monk doing monster level 10 with a smile on her face. Pure ligthning build, two one handers and attack speed Close to 3.0. Jumping into the middle of all the demons, moving about when needing to, avoiding the meanest elemental damage, speedy hands and speedy feet, sweeping wind in her ears, melting her enemies fast and efficient. Those were the days my friends and fellow monks, those were the days:-) Now ROS hits. I look forward to it alot. After playing for awhile i notice that Monk have become an even thougher class to gear for dps wise than before. Attack speed got a big nerf. That meant lower sprit regen, without life steal we needed life on hit, health globes, life regen, more vitality and armor and all res than ever before. Why? Well if you are figthing as a true Monk, in the middle of the mess that is elemental damage from elites and lots and lots of demons, we need alot of damage mitigation. I play a melee class. That means beeing right infront of my targets. Without life steal that scaled with my dps Our survivability tok a big hit. To maximize dps while still beeing able to take a hit in ROS was a pain to gear for. So OWE became even more important than before. As my ROS Monk grew in power i noticed that she did a lot less damage than the other classes in group play. I realiced that even with good gear Monks was lacking in the dps department big time, and perfect gear wouldn't help. At the same time more and more pull palm zdps monks started to pop up. Why? This was the only way for a Monk to get to T5, T6 and feel usefull in Group play. It went so far that zdps monks started to use strength gear to maximize the zdps playstyle. My heart sank, how far have we fallen when becoming a support class is the only choise if we want to do some end game T5, T6 and feel like we are contributing to the group? Monk as a class was clearly broken in ROS. Then a ray of hope. We will get a New 6 set bonus. And what do we get, a 6 set bonus linked to dashing strike.... So our biggest bonus is only usefull if we enjoy dashing all over the screen. I tried it and got tired of that gameplay in a few hours. So my heart sank again... Then patch 2.1 came to PTR. The savior of Monk as a class according to Blizzard. What does it do? It makes all of us that have invested our time and effort and gold into making a dps monk more squishy, Our dps is increased a litte, Our toughness goes down the drain along with Dodge. The only option left to be a versatile Monk is the zdps one, or if you can stand it, the dashing strike one. The first option is an obomination and the second will make your eyes and head tired in 15 minutes. If Blizzard doesn't get their act together Monks will die out as a class. Now what would really fix Monk? Which skill will make almost all Monks and all builds better. Which skill scales with almost all other skills for a Monk? That my friends is attack speed. Increase attack speed and you increase dps, spirit regen and life regen. In my opinion attack speed should be linked to Dexterity. The more Dexterity I get the faster I get. For a Monk that is quite logical, just look up what Dexterity actually means: "skill in performing tasks, especially with the hands. "her dexterity with chopsticks" synonyms: deftness, adeptness, adroitness, agility, nimbleness, handiness, ability, capability, talent, skilfulness, skill, proficiency, accomplishment, expertise, experience, efficiency, effortlessness, slickness, mastery, delicacy, knack, facility, artistry, sleight of hand, craft, finesse, Felicity" Monks should be agile creatures, fast and nimble. A linking of attack speed to Dexterity would apply to Monks only. Not for demon Hunters. For instance: 1000 Dexterity = 1000 armor + 5% increased attack speed 8000 dex = 8000 armor + 40% attack speed. If this is impossible to implement for Blizzard, make it the six set bonus. If all six items are equipped, you gain a 50% increase in attack speed, hell make it a 100%. Find the rigth balance and Monks of almost all builds will get a well deserved buff to all our weak areas. We all know what those areas are : Dps, sprit regen and health regen. Increase attack speed enough, and Monks as a class will be fixed. If Monk is kept as it is now in PTR, Monk as we knew it is dead. More squishy haveing to use harmony with no dodge instead of OWE. The armor increase is not compensating enough. We still do crap damage and feel slow. Give us back our attack speed, the skill that really defines a MONK. zdps is an abomination created because there was no other viable alternative. Pretty please with suger on top Blizzard, make Monks fast again. Make monks fun again. Speed, thats what we need...... Discuss... Ps: I apologize for any spelling or grammar mistakes, I'm Norwegian. | We've been keeping an eye on a lot of threads, but I wanted to make sure you all know that Monk feedback is certainly included. This thread has done a very good job of staying on topic, and keeping constructive. We really appreciate it, and you can be sure that we'll continue to keep an eye on all of these discussions. Be sure to keep it going, especially as we get new builds on the PTR. I don't have an estimate to share for the next build, but it's likely soon! | ||
