Hardcore Funerals – How Do You Honor the Dead(1)Category: HardcoreJuly-1-2014 1:44 PM PDT (10 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Greetings fellow Hardcore adventurers!

It’s been awhile since I’ve addressed these forums and just wanted to bump shields with y’all.

In regards to all things HC, I was wondering how many of you celebrate the virtual lives of your heroes once they have been slain. For example, when my own high-level characters fall in battle, I typically honor their passing by making effigies out of crushed newspaper, placing the makeshift mummies on little cardboard altars, and then pouring one out as I light the pyre and watch it burn (don’t judge!). Like so. This may or may not be followed by me singing the praises of my hero with other HC friends who are in the vicinity and who likewise wish to pay homage.

Anyone else have any tales about how they send their characters off into the great beyond?

Of note: Burt got the funeral even though he was 23, due to the fact he was one of my first DIII HC characters.

But my main and such? Still alive -although I had one single close call that was baaaad. Granted, I don't play like crazy every day, but still, haven't died yet.

Most excellent! Here's hoping their legend continues to grow in the months and years to come!

When one of my heroes dies, I take his death screenshot, the one the game saves (or a shot of his "ghost" from the menu, if he dies to DC and there is no screenshot) and rename it with his hero name and date of death. Then I write a story about him and his adventures on Sanctuary, and save that along with his screenshot with the same file name, and zip them up together in my D3 folder to review and remember at times in the future.

Very cool!

Thanks Bryan, my pond is a decent size, maybe 1500 gal.

I used to build ponds like this! That's a particularly nice set up, and I'm jealous of your landscaping.

Now, to stay on the topic of honoring the dead, I have no ceremony, only a seething need for revenge. Suizogg Viletongue always gets a quick death and a curse whenever I find him/her for killing my Barbarian in Crumbling Vault, for instance.

I celebrate their virtual lives by creating new heroes to slay hordes of demons in their memory.

Well done, that's good enough for me!

On topic, the truth is that each of my hero's celebrates their life not their death. They live, and die, balls to the wall. No retreat, no mercy, and no regrets. Their death IS the celebration of their life.

Well put. I dig it.

Araxom how do you make such spectacular effigies for your fallen heroes i must know.

This was one of the tamer ones. I've also sent them off on Viking Funeral boats (made from drink cartons) and have shot them with flaming arrows as they sailed across small wading pools. If my current main dies I'm thinking of sending up the effigy in a model rocket. Not really sure if that fits the gothic theme, but whatever. I may record that - not looking forward to it, so hopefully it doesn't come to pass.
