Just bought the expansion, started Act 5

Got to the 2nd quest to go into Westmarch to find the Soul Crucible thingies and the game crashes, without fail, after two minutes.

Any suggestions? computer exceeds minimum requirements

Jendoren,

Can you post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it ALL here.

Could you also post your D3Prefs.txt file? It's located in the My Documents\Diablo III folder.

Jendoren,

The game is most likely just pushing the capabilities of your hardware beyond what it can provide without issues.

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+A6-3400M+APU

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Radeon+HD+6520G

I've a couple of suggestions that may help somewhat.

They involve making a few changes to the D3Prefs.txt file.

With the game closed, edit the file and change these lines:

Vsync "0"
LimitForegroundFPS "1"
LimitBackgroundFPS "1"
HardwareClass "2"

to

Vsync "1"
LimitForegroundFPS "0"
LimitBackgroundFPS "0"
HardwareClass "1"

Try the game again and see if the issue persists. When playing, try not to have any other applications running in the background.

Jendoren,

Overheating would be my next guess then as areas in Act 5 can heat up your video card and if it's not being properly cooled, it can lead to issues like crashing.

Download and run HWMonitor from: http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.24-setup.exe

Now start the game and let it run several minutes. Then exit or alt-tab out and see what the highest temperature is that was reached for both the cpu and gpu. You don't need to copy and paste anything from the report, just read the max temps from the screen and report them here.

Jendoren,

I'd like to see how hot both the gpu and cpu are getting. Monitor the temps while in Act 5 if you can. The Soul Crucible quests are known to really cause stress and can easily heat up components. You may need to crank up the rpms on any fans you have control over.
